Eldridge Leon Mathews
Eldridge Leon Mathews, 93, of Lumberton, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born September 14, 1927, in Jasper, Texas to Eva Magee Mathews and Edward Mathews. He graduated from French High School in 1946. While there he played football and basketball.
He served his country in the United States Navy and Air Force and retired from GSU/Entergy after forty-four years of service. He was a member of B.F. Quicksall/Beaumont Lodge for fifty-six years. During his lifetime he always loved music. His favorite was Bluegrass and Western Swing. He could play mandolin, fiddle and guitar.
Eldridge is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Eva Mathews; sister, Geneva Perkins; brothers Delton and Herschel Mathews. Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Edythe (Edy); daughter, Landa Bess Sinclair of Zachary, La; son, Edward (Eddie) of Franklin, La; son, Gerald Harbinson and wife Sandi of Asheville, NC; four grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
