Elizabeth “Betty” Kiefer

December 17, 1937 - January 11, 2023

Elizabeth “Betty” Kiefer, the daughter of Charles and Genevieve Muldoon, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on December 17, 1937. She was raised in Lyndhurst and moved to Beaumont in 1968, where she spent the rest of her life. She passed away on January 11, 2023.

Betty met her beloved husband, Walter, over a bowl of pickles at the Reo Diner in Woodbridge, New Jersey, in 1959. She accepted Walter’s proposal on their third date, and they were married on October 1, 1960. Betty was a loving, kind, and devoted wife. Together, Betty and Walter raised four sons, and they celebrated fifty-four years of marriage before Walter passed away in 2014.

Betty served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 222 and as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beaumont. Through these experiences, she recognized that teaching was her calling in life. She earned an Elementary Education degree at Lamar University and then taught for twenty-one years at Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor, mostly teaching second grade. In retirement, she started a second career teaching machine embroidery. She loved hosting her grandchildren at “Camp Grandma” whenever possible, enjoyed researching her family genealogy, and was an expert cake decorator.

Betty is survived by her four sons, Walter (Kathleen) of Houston; David of Beaumont; Gary of Lumberton; Michael (Cyndy) of Beaumont; four loving grandchildren, Ashleigh Engel (Matt) of Texas City; Seth Kiefer of Lumberton; Rachel Coley (Luke) of League City; and Tabitha Kiefer of Beaumont.

A gathering of Mrs. Kiefer’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
