Elizabeth McNicholas

August 16, 1952 - April 28, 2018

Elizabeth Graham McNicholas passed away on April 28, 2018. She is survived by her daughters Alexandra McNicholas Bernier and Kirksey McNicholas Reynolds, their husbands, Benjamin Joseph Bernier and Stephen Mercer Reynolds, and four grandchildren, Stephen Mercer Reynolds, Jr., Jeanne Elizabeth Hollingshead, Bridget Reddington Reynolds, and James Fletcher Reynolds. She is preceded in death by her father, the Honorable James D. McNicholas, her mother, Jeanne Graham McNicholas, and her brother, James D. McNicholas, Jr.

Graham was born in Beaumont, Texas, on August 16, 1952. She was a graduate of The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas, where she was honored with the Boarder’s pin in 1970, the highest individual award given by the resident department. She also graduated from the University of Oklahoma, earning a bachelor of arts degree. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi and continued to be an active alumnae for much of her life.

Graham devoted herself to many charitable and civic organizations. She was an active member of the Junior League of Beaumont as well as the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. She was also a member and officer of the Magnolia Garden Club, following in the footsteps of her mother Jeanne and her great-grandmother, Mrs. William F. Graham, who was a charter member. Graham was also a member of the Buckner Auxiliary Board for Buckner Children and Family Services in Beaumont. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew’s Presbteryian Church, where she carried on her mother’s annual tradition of covering the cross hanging above the sanctuary with lilies in celebration of Easter.

Above all else, Graham’s greatest devotion was to her family, caring for both of her parents and sharing a special bond with them as well as her brother Jim. Her daughters Alex and Kirksey, as well as her precious grandchildren, were the lights of her life.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 23rd and Gladys, Beaumont, Texas. Dr. Robert Birdwell, Judge Keith F. Alex and Kirksey, Your mom and I shared birthdays. It was always a race to see which one of us got our birthday cards in the mail first. Your mom always won! I will miss her calling me Lucky, her sweet smile, and our conversations about our families and especially our grands. David and I send love, hugs, and prayers to you all. Heaven has a new angel to watch over us.
