Ella Landry
Ella (Melancon) Landry passed away August 27, 2018, at the age of 100 at her residence at Park Manor of Cy-Fair in Houston. Texas. She was born to Estelle Arceneaux and Joseph Melancon, on June 28, 1918, in Rayne, Louisiana. She was one of twelve, but as a teenager, she moved to Hamshire, Texas, where she lived for over 70 years, married, and raised her family.
Survivors include her son, John Wiersema and his wife, Karen, of Cypress, Texas; daughters, Nelwyn Coffey, of Houston and Alice Heaton and her husband, William, of Calabasas, California; sister, Evelyn Casey and her husband, Mike, of Vidor; grandchildren, Kevin Wiersema; Kelly Mock and her husband, Justin; Brady Coffey and his wife, Jessica; Todd Coffey and his wife, Sarah; Ryan Coffey; Courtney Siegert and her husband, Ty; Matt Heaton; Warren Heaton and his husband, Alain; and Janice Heaton; and great-grandchildren, Kylie Mock, Jordan Mock, Owen Coffey, Wyatt Coffey, and Rhys Coffey.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 10 of her siblings, and her former husbands, John Wiersema and Clifford Landry.
Ella was an avid gardener, who loved fishing, camping, the New York Yankees, and the Dallas Cowboys with a passion. She served her community as a practical nurse at the Winshire Clinic; however, she is best known by her family and friends as one of the best Cajun cooks around, especially her gumbo.
A gathering of Mrs. Landry’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
