Felix Ramirez
Felix Robert Ramirez, Sr. of Nederland, Texas passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. Felix was born on May 30, 1942 in Port Arthur, Texas to Genovello Ramirez and Basilia Martinez Ramirez. Felix graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960 and served in the United States Army Reserves for several years. Felix met the love of his life, Oliva Gutierrez Ramirez, whom he married on March 16, 1963.
Felix and Olivia made their home in Nederland, Texas. They were blessed with three beautiful children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Felix and Olivia were lifelong members of Our Lady of Guadalupe and influential in raising the funds for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe which was completed and blessed by Pope John Paul in May of 1990. They also loved to travel. One extra special trip for them was their trip to the Holy Land in Israel.
Felix was an employee of Gulf Oil in Port Arthur, Texas for thirty-two years, from which where he retired in 2002. After retirement, Felix dabbled in other business ventures including a Christmas store in Nederland, Texas owned by him and his wife, and a business development/ consultant work for certain energy companies located in Southeast Texas. In Felix’s younger years, he loved to fish and work on cars; and in his retirement years, he enjoyed spending time with family and taking trips to Louisiana casinos.
While Felix was blessed with a beautiful life, his true love was his family. He was extremely proud of everyone and helped in any manner he could. His family referred to him as their hero, a great listener, caring, and dependable. He was always available to help fix or build something at a moment’s notice and never told anyone no. Felix helped not only his family, but others in need. He was a true handyman and a man with the kindest heart.
Felix is preceded in death by his son, Felix Ramirez, Jr.; his parents; his brothers, James, Augustine, Frank, Isabele, Carlos, Luz, Jesse, and Roquio Ramirez; two sisters; and his son-in-law, James Smith II.
Survivors include, his wife, Olivia Ramirez; son, Robert Ramirez (Tricia); daughter, Becky Smith; and grandchildren, Halie Ramirez-Helton (Nathan Helton), Jessica, Anthony and Nicole Ramirez, and Laynie and Abbie Smith; great grandchild, Natalie Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of Mr. Ramirez’s family and friends will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2022, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Immaculate Conception / St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 4100 Lincoln Avenue, Groves, with his interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 101 Block Street, Port Neches. Those serving as pallbearers will be Jay Bailey, Justin Bailey, Connor Bailey, Andrew Huebel, Tim Leger, and David Ramirez.
Memorial contributions in honor of Felix may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe or the Special Olympics in memory of Felix and his beloved son.
