Floyd Frederick Flanagan

December 20, 1930 - March 27, 2024

Floyd Frederick Flanagan, 93, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1930, in Beaumont, to Ruby Rhode and John Flanagan.

Floyd attended Beaumont High School where he was a standout athlete in tennis, basketball, and baseball. He was selected to play on the Beaumont all-city baseball team. Floyd earned a basketball scholarship at Lamar University and went on to play professional baseball. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Carolyn Chambers on December 30, 1950.Floyd was drafted into the US Army as an MP stationed in Wurzburg, Germany in 1952.  He returned to the US and became general manager and president of a local oil and gas distributorship.

Floyd encouraged his family to take up tennis and was president of the Beaumont Tennis Association and excelled in the sport until he could no longer play. He enjoyed taking his entire family camping and fishing whenever possible. Floyd was an usher at First Methodist Church in Beaumont. After retirement, he spent as much time as possible developing the Flanagan ranch in Charco, Texas. He loved his family, grandkids, and great grandkids and was the best example of what a dad should be to his children.  Later in life he loved singing and dancing.

Survivors include his wife of seventy-three years, Sue Flanagan; children, Jon Flanagan and his wife, Melinda; Susan Lopez and her husband, James; and Kurt Flanagan and his wife, Diane; grandchildren, Jerimy Boothe and his wife, Jessica; Jonathan Flanagan; Nicholas Flanagan and his wife, Elizabeth; Kelly Johnson and her husband, Kenny; Ann Williams and her husband, Felix; and Renee Flanagan; great-grandchildren, James Hanna; Jentry Boothe; Jachin Boothe; Bax Boothe; Kayla Flanagan; Brendon Flanagan; Bentley Johnson; Vail Johnson; Wayland Johnson; Rhys Johnson; and Aethyra Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

A memorial service for Mr. Flanagan will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

    Uncle Floyd will be missed. Prayers for Aunt Sue and all of the family. We were both fortunate to work with Uncle Floyd in our adult years. He taught me a lot about how things at work, had to be perfectly tended too. Definitely a great example.
