Gene Hardy, 85, of Port Arthur, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 4, 2022.

He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on November 29, 1936. He was the son of Leed and Eunice Hardy. He attended St. James Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Pinell Hardy in 1956, and were married 66 years. While raising their 6 children in Nederland, he was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Cursillo Movement, and the St. Charles ACTS Retreat. He began his career by becoming a member of Pipefitter’s Local 195. He worked in construction his entire career.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Hardy, of Port Arthur, Texas; brother L.J. Hardy, of Nederland, Texas; daughters, Penny Work and husband, Billy, of Lumberton, Texas; Dana Huff and husband, Rex, of Nederland, Texas; Tandi Waite and husband, Eddie, of Nederland, Texas; Mendy Romero and husband, Eddie, of Nederland, Texas; son, Gene Hardy and wife, Dianne, of Buna, Texas; daughter-in-law, Nicole Lopez Hardy, of Nederland, Texas; seventeen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leed and Eunice Hardy; sister, Ruby Hardy; and son, Brad Hardy.

The love of his family and faith was most important to him. But he always loved watching a good Bulldogs football game, and playing a round of golf daily.

A special thank you to Hospice Plus, and his two caregivers, Marianna Medoza and Sabina Perez, who were our angels.

A gathering of Mr. Hardy’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Hi Gene, I always enjoyed your dad being around the baseball park for NA Little League. He was one of our All Star coaches. Really great man. I’m sorry to hear of his passing, but he is in a better place now and wouldn’t come back if he could. Prayers for your family.
