George Arthur Drake

March 27, 1937 - May 22, 2024

George Arthur Drake, 87, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was born on March 27, 1937, in Silsbee, to Callie Yawn Drake and Reverend Roderick Murrah Drake. George was a Past Master of Silsbee Lodge, #927, A.F. and A.M.

George met the love of his life, Bobbie Wise, in 1953, at church in Woodville.  Three years later he and Bobbie married on March 16, 1957.  They were married for sixty-seven glorious years.

He retired from Texaco Refinery in 1995.  He was an expert carpenter and cabinet builder.  He also did remodeling and roofing for numerous people in the Silsbee area. George had a great passion for farming and was well known for his expert gardening skills.  He loved raising cattle, fishing, and hunting.  He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and was loved by them all very much.  George was the ultimate family man and worked hard all his life to provide for them.

George, along with his family, were members of Evergreen, Oak Grove Harvest, and Caney Head Assembly of God churches.  He played a vital role at Caney Head Assembly in the building of their new church several years ago.  During his lifetime he was a faithful member and served in the church in multiple capacities.  He was an amazing man of God that left a rich heritage for his family and all that knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Jean Drake; children, LaDonna Ingham and her husband, Brian; and Tim Drake, Sr., both of Silsbee; grandchildren, Tim Drake II and his wife, Hollie, of Silsbee; Alisha Steltz of Beaumont; Trenton Drake and his wife, Ashly; Kalli Hoke and her husband, Tristan; and Tanner Ingham and his wife, Alexis, all of Silsbee; great-grandchildren, Kaylar, Roland, Samson, Katie, Allee, Garrison, Alexander, Matlinn, Brilynn Gore, and Lainy Gore; numerous nieces and nephews; and siblings, Harold Drake and his wife, Jean, of Dayton; Reverend Harvey Drake and his wife, Sissie, of Hardin; Barbara Drake of Silsbee; and  Johnny Parry of North Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Callie and Reverend Roderick Drake; stepmother, Mae Belle Drake; brothers, Roy Drake and Robert Carl Drake; sister, Simuel Lee Ard; and grandson, Chad Drake.

A gathering of Mr. Drake’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 24, 2024, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2024, with his interment to follow at Franks Branch Cemetery, Fred.
