Harley Lee Soper

Harley Lee Soper, 96, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Christus Southeast Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born on July 7, 1925, to Ruth Pearl Rowley Soper and Ralph Milford Soper, in Sutherland, Nebraska. He grew up farming and ranching and his love for horses and the land stayed with him his entire life. Harley enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, and turning pens. He was a perfectionist in his craft. Harley was very active in his church life. With his wife, he led a small group Bible Study in their home. He served as a treasurer, part of the Benevolence Committee, was a Deacon and Deacon Emeritus, volunteered at the Hope Center, and traveled on mission trips to Mexico. Harley was responsible for leading the Awana Club in his church in Moss Bluff, Louisiana, and Owasso, Oklahoma.

Survivors include his children, Steven M. Soper and his wife, Nancy, of Missoula, Montana; Jean Jones and her husband, Steve, of Magnolia; and Tom Soper and his wife, Tresa, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Erin Anderson and her husband, Mike, Sarah Crouch and her husband, Robert, Luke Soper, Ross Jones, Jordan Soper and his wife, Emily, and Alex Soper and his wife, April; and great-grandchildren, Sidney Anderson, Darin Anderson, Chase Walker, Cameron Walker, Riley Crouch, Cole Soper, Molly Soper, and Gus Soper.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Theresa Bobbye Soper; and siblings, Keith Soper, Ira “Shorty” Soper, John Soper, Mildred Rupracht; Margie Davis, Mynor Soper, Herbert Soper, Adeline Barker.

A gathering of Mr. Soper’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2022, at Westgate Memorial Baptist Church, 6220 Westgate, Beaumont. His graveside service will be held at Houston National Cemetery, Houston, at a later date, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
