Horace Leon Porter, Sr.

Horace Leon Porter, Sr., 86, of Fannett, died Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was born April 19, 1937, in Nacogdoches, to Francis Lee Johnson Porter and Jewel Elgin Porter.

Leon enjoyed cooking holiday dinners for his family and friends every holiday. He also enjoyed coaching minor, little, and pony league baseball. Leon enjoyed watching his kids play sports, never missing a game. He enjoyed watching NHRA drag racing as well as working on vehicles. His hobbies were fishing and squirrel hunting. Leon is fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw.

Survivors include children, Donna Watson and husband, David, of Fannett; Christy Fountain and husband, Kevin, of Port Arthur; Donald Porter and wife, Sherry, of Fannett; Kenneth W. Porter and wife, Dora, of San Antonio; fourteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brother, Max Porter and wife, Judy, of California; sister, Helen Hanley of Fannett; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ima Jean Porter; son, Horace Leon “JuJu” Porter Jr.; and sister, Mary Hooks.

A gathering of Mr. Porter’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2024, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Broussard Cemetery, Fannett.
