Jackye Maye Aiena
Jackye Moore Aiena was born on December 11, 1932, to Jack M. Moore and Della Mae Moore, in Beaumont, Texas. She passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021, after a brief illness at the age of 88.
Jackye graduated from French High School in 1950, and from Lamar College. She was a retired BISD teacher and spent most of her career as a PE teacher and coach at Bowie Junior High School, and later at French High School. She also taught summer programs and coached girls’ sports, leading the French High volleyball team to a state title. Jackye had a life-long love of dance. As a child, she studied at the Widman School of Dance, performing in many local plays and public events and in every dance style. She taught ballet as a PE class at Bowie Junior High, the only dance class offered in BISD at the time. With her love of sports and coaching she always attended games and activities after school and on the weekends for her grandchildren and great-nephew. After her beloved husband died, Jackye built a new life with many dear friends at Beaumont’s Best Years Senior Citizen Activity Center. These tireless ladies performed at many civic events, retirement homes and churches.
Jackye was active in her church, Wesley Methodist. She and her husband, Tommy, loved to cook for their family. She was a wonderful seamstress, she did beautiful handwork, and was one of the few who could tat.
Survivors include her brother, Ray Moore and his children, Mark Moore, Laura Williams, and Eileen Lewis, and their families; son, Kirk Martin and his wife, Suzanne, of Cedar Park; daughter, Kathleen Combest and her husband, Brand, of Lumberton; son, Thomas A. Aiena and his wife, Mary, of Kingwood; foster son, Tony Sekaly and his wife, Shelly, of Houston; grandchildren, Daniel Martin and his wife, Jeanne-Marie, of Cedar Park; Julie Martin, of Austin; Kam Noonkester and her husband, Chance, of Lumberton; Kelli Rogers and her husband, Marc, of Colorado; Chase Combest, of Lumberton; Kacy Combest, of Lumberton; Brandi Roy and her husband, Rich, of Florida; Clay Aiena and his wife, Brandi Mae, of Dallas; Stephanie Kultur and her husband, Kerem, of Pennsylvania; Tiffany Major and her husband, Ben, of Kingwood; Drew Sekaly and his wife, Shelby, of Houston; Elizabeth Cross, and her husband, Matt, of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Darin Martin; Vivian Martin; Benjamin Martin; Jayden Polnick; Brooklyn Polnick; Sophie Rogers; Conner Aiena; Catie Aiena; Tori Mason; Korbin Mason; Evan Nettles; Olivia Kultur; Jaxon Major; and Ford Major.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Aiena.

A family interment for Mrs. Aiena will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont.

I love Mrs. Aiena. I had her three years in a row seventh eighth and ninth grade PE. I always admired her toned muscle body and her long hair I was so envious of her hair. She was strict kind fair and very sweet. I loved it when she smiled. I was not good at tennis but she let me play anyway. I loved it when she laughed. She mentored one of my nieces like she was her own daughter and we had no money but she didn’t care. She will be dearly missed I’m sure. I only wished I had known that I could have seen her that she lived here and went to church down the road. rest in peace heaven just got a new angel. Love you Sandy Morgan Parsons

I'm so very sorry to hear about Mrs. Aiena's passing. She was a sweet and caring person. I have such fond memories of her kind spirit and beautiful smile . She was my Track Coach at French High School, she was an excellent Coach and motivator, I would always get so nervous before my events , and here she would come , wrap her arm around my shoulder and give me a pep talk , and off I'd go and run my heart out. She drove me home after practice on more than one occasion...I grew up on Ada right around the corner , so she would always ask if I needed a ride home. I hope she knew how grateful my parent's were for her kindness.. She will be greatly missed. Prayers for comfort and peace.

She was a very nice lady. She was my Ballet teacher at James Bowie Jr High, her daughter Kathryn was my daughter Jodi’s kindergarten teacher and my children went to school with her grandchildren. Prayers for the family.

Mrs. .Aiena was my PE teacher at Bowie. I took the ballet class that she taught at Bowie and my balance and grace improved greatly. I became a flight attendant and I think that class helped me a lot with the poise I needed to get that job. She was a positive force in my life.

Mrs. Arena was my gym teacher and coach at Bowie Junior High. She was a wonderful role model for all us young girls, incorporating hard work with grace and that trademark ponytail. Fast forward many years and while visiting my mother at summer place, Mrs Aiena was there performing for the residents with the senior citizens center. She was the lead, of course, and still sporting that trademark ponytail. My condolences to the family. She was such an inspiration!

My deepest sympathy to the family of Jackye, many prayers have been lifted up for this sweet lady. Our 8:00 service at Wesley has been so empty without her and concern for her in her absence. So disheartened when we learned the news of her stroke. Even more devastating when we learned she had passed away. Another 8:00 member sends her condolence to the family, Doris Waldron. Doris does not have a computer and wanted the family to know she has been praying for her. We all agree she has moved on to a much better place with our Lord and reunited with Tom once again. Our prayers will continue on your loss as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and our loss of a good friend.

I had Mrs Aiena as a PE teacher while attending Bowie. She was strict, but, a great teacher. I loved her smile and her poise. I wasnt coordinated enough to take ballet, but, my younger sisters did and enjoyed every class. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Heaven has gained another angel.

Mrs. Aiena was my volleyball coach for 3 years at Bowie Jr HIgh. My freshman year at French High she moved to that school and remained my volleyball coach for another 2 years. She always saw the potential in me even if I didn't. I remember her calling my house the summer between my last year at Bowie and my Freshman year at French wanting to know why I was not at the summer volleyball practices at the high school. I told her I wasn't aware of them and she kindly said, "Now you are so I expect to see you there in the morning!" LOL And of course, I was there. She not only taught us sports, or ballet for some, but life's lessons and how to ALWAYS conduct yourself properly. I deeply regret not going to see her recently and now will always regret that. But I know I will see her again some day and it will be a wonderful reunion. Thank you for everything Coach Aiena!!! You will be missed and always loved!!!!

Jackie was special! I got to know her over the last couple of months at the Assisted Living where she lived. I will always remember this image of her, running her fingers through her lovely hair. She was a dancer till her last day, always full of grace. I am not surprised to read about her background in PE, she loved fitness and exercise. She always gave me her best! I miss her! I hope she is at peace wherever she is. My heartfelt condolences to her family.!
