James Clifton Copeland

November 2, 1944 - September 28, 2018

James Clifton Copeland, 73, formerly of Winnie, died Friday, September 28, 2018. He was born on November 2, 1944, in Beaumont, to Frances Elaine Bond Copeland and Woodrow Clifton Copeland. James served in the United States Air Force, pastored for thirty-five years, and was serving as a Project Manager for Wybank Land Services.

James began preaching in 1971. The majority of his ministry was spent in Tyler, Texas and in Winnie, Texas. His ministry has changed many lives. He was a man who practiced what he preached and lived his life as an example of what it meant to follow Jesus.

James was all about his family. He was a loving husband, father, but spent his last 28 years spoiling his grandkids and great-grandkids. Their passions became his passion, and he made it a priority to support them to the best of his ability.

Survivors include his wife, Molly Copeland of Bullard; son, Tray Copeland of Bullard; daughter, Trini Lezak and her husband, Michael, of Winnie; grandchildren, Justin Lezak and his wife, Halee; Jarred Lezak and his girlfriend, Emma Austin; Gracie Copeland; and Audrey Copeland; great-grandchildren, Parker James Lezak and Asher Michael Lezak; and sisters, Dena Williams and her husband, Robert and Kay Lewis and her husband, Jay.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Howell; and twin grandsons, Cody and Caleb Lezak.

A gathering of Mr. Copeland’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 1, 2018, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Cornerstone Church, 3810 Highway 124, Winnie, with his interment following at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

I will always remember James as a kind and gentle man who was a strong Christian. We worked together in Wybank. There were many times James and I would discuss church as he being a pastor and me directing music in many churches. We always had the same conclusion that God gave us the way to reach our Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. James is in Heaven looking down on us with a quiet presence. He was such a good man. We will miss him.

Molly and family - I am just learning of Jimmy's passing and it's the day of the service and I can't be there. This breaks my heart. No way in this amount of space can I explain what Jimmy meant to me. He was such a major part of my spiritual life. As youth leaders you both were amazing witnesses to the love of Christ and how we should be his hands and his feet. I cherish all the times I spent with you and the relationship we shared. No doubt Jimmy is very happy right now spending time with Jesus! I love you all!
