James Edward Fischer

November 6, 1943 - December 23, 2023

James Edward Fischer,” Jimmy”, 80, of Beaumont, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023. He was born on November 6, 1943, in Jasper, to Marion Geneva Matthews and James Robert Fischer.

Jimmy grew up in Beaumont, Texas. He served in the United States Navy and received many honors. After leaving the service, he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber. After retiring there he worked for TDCJ. Jimmy was a renaissance man. He knew a little bit about everything.  He was an avid historian. Jimmy was a great storyteller and could make you believe anything he told you whether it was fact or fiction. He had a quick wit and an immediate response for everything. Jimmy was an outdoorsman who loved to play golf, hunt, and fish. He also enjoyed the times he spent riding Harleys.  Jimmy was a devoted husband, dad “Pops”, father-in-law, and “Popeye”. He loved fiercely and made sure you knew it.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife, Mirza Coussou Fischer, “Bunny”; sister, Gwen Blackwell; her daughters, Denise Pennacchi, Stephanie Ward and Michelle Cooper; brother, Robert Fischer and his wife, Barbara; son, James Michael Fischer and his wife, Stacey; granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Soileau and her husband, Todd; great grandchildren, Tristan, Cason, Tucker, Beckham, and Trinity; son, Jeffery David Hughes and his wife, Brook; grandson, Grant Edward Hughes and his wife, Kristana, as well as his 2 beloved dogs, Hershey Marie and Zero.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to thank Professional Health Care, Dr. Shanhti Reddy at the VA Clinic in Beaumont, and his caregivers, Phyllis, Tina, and Suzy. Their care was appreciated greatly.

Cremation arrangements for Mr. Fischer were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. The family will have a memorial in the spring.

    Oh Bunny, I was so sad when I opened the Broussard’s page and read of Jimmy’s passing. I first knew him at SAHS and enjoyed it very much. You all were such good neighbors to Marie Cloninger on 21st Street and we missed seeing you, Please be comforted by great memories and the knowledge that you are in the thoughts and prayers of friends.

    My brother,Jimmy,Jim,James was special.He was a sisters pest at a young age and perhaps my best friend in our senior years. He liked jokes…. Playing them or reciting them as soon as they were told to him. He was my brother for his 80 years and what a ride I was blessed to be part of. He will be missed! l loved him dearly and will miss his phone calls..,,,and the laughter. Rest in God, my brother!
