James Edward Fisher

October 19, 1950 - May 21, 2023

James “Jim” Edward Fisher was born in LaGrange, Texas on October 19, 1950, and died in his home in Groves, Texas on May 21, 2023.  He was the eldest of four siblings.

Jim was a graduate of MB Smiley High of Houston, Texas in 1969.  There, he was a member of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps and the Ham Radio Club.

He served six years in the U.S. Navy with duty assignment to the U.S.S. Albany guided missile cruiser as Fire Control Technician stationed out of Norfolk, Virginia.  The Albany was part of the North Atlantic Fleet and ranged from the Arctic circle to the Mediterranean and Caribbean Seas.

After the navy, Jim returned home to Nacogdoches where he worked as a contract instrument technician for a number of local industrial firms.  He moved to Groves in the 1980s and started work at the Uniroyal Goodrich Port Neches plant as an Instrument Technician/Electrician, where he worked until he retired from Lion Elastomers in 2020.

Faith and service were important to Jim.  He joined St. Paul Lutheran Church shortly after moving to Groves.  He was an active member serving on the Board of Stewardship for many years, including the role of Recording Secretary.  Jim also enjoyed singing in the choir.

Jim liked working with his hands and helping neighbors.  He constantly was working on his house, striving to finish every project he tackled above normal specification.  He shared his handiness with his neighbors, helping them with home and automobile repair projects.  One area of specific interest was transitioning to renewable energy.  He has happily driven an electric car for years, recently had solar panels installed on his house, and was beginning to replace his gas appliances with electric ones.

Survivors include his brother, Robert Fisher and wife, Judith; sister, Barbara Gilmore and husband, Donald; brother, John Fisher and wife, Janice; nephews, Thomas Fisher; Gerald Fisher; David Gilmore and wife, Jessica; Daniel Gilmore and wife, Catherine; Scott Fisher; and Alan Fisher; nieces, Lora Gilmore and Sara Kubena and husband, Daniel; great-nephews, Daegan Gilmore; Dominic Kubena; and Damien Kubena; great-nieces, Mandy Gilmore; Adelyn Gilmore; Aubriella Gilmore; and Alexandra Gilmore; uncles, Steven Fisher; James H. You become such a good friend and I have picked up the phone many times, not thinking and about to call . I had became custom to talking to you several times a week about renewable energy , your car and your panels. We found ourselves on the phone two and three hours discussing renewable energy. Some may think a boring conversation, but, you provided me so much education, taught me so many things about electricity and we helped each other with Enphase Solar Classes . You read everything I sent you and you were a good, interesting , and patient teacher and I also hope I was to you. I will always regret not coming by the day you passed and wish I had not re-scheduled. Most individuals I have lost in this life , they have been ill and known we were losing. But, to lose a friend , thinking healthy and only having heartburn has impacted me . I will always miss our conversations and our new friendship. Thank you for always being so pleasant and kind. . The last year has been a special friendship . I will always remember and cherish the time Johnny and I were able to know you and our friendship. You blessed our lives and we will always cherish you. Heaven received a special person the day you went home .We will see you again my friend. ,
You’re in our loving memories. .
    Your friends,
