Jane Allene Harvill Brackin

April 29, 1926 - March 24, 2024

Jane Allene Harvill Brackin, 97, of Nederland, made her journey home peacefully on March 24, 2024, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was born April 29, 1926, in Nederland, to Lola Ota Defee Harvill and Louis Marion Harvill.

She was a lifelong and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Nederland, Texas. Jane was a member of the Silvertone Choir who performed for their church and community. She belonged to a Bible Study group of women where she served as President, Vice President, and Secretary. Jane began volunteering as a ‘Pink Lady’ for Mid Jefferson Hospital and continued as an Auxiliary Volunteer for the Southeast Texas Medical Center where she was honored as Auxiliarist of the Year.

Jane loved baking, gardening, traveling, spending time in the Word, and opening her home to family and friends. She would always have a delicious baked sweet treat in the kitchen, and she would serve it with a smile. Even in her later years, she would sit in her rocking chair on the patio as her children continued to garden for her and welcome all those that came by. Jane was an avid sports fan who supported all things Texas and Nederland.

Jane was married to Burt Brackin on July 3, 1948, they were married fifty-three years. As the matriarch of the family, Jane will be remembered as an angelic and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her siblings were of utmost importance to her as she often called for her sisters to be near. Jane looked forward to the Nederland Heritage Festival each year as the Brackin Homestead became the gathering place for family and friends alike. She was endearly known as “Aunt Jane” or “Nanny” by all who walked through the doors. Jane was a loving and caring person, always thinking of others first. “To know her was to love her.”

Jane is survived by her devoted children; daughter, Connie Benoit and husband, Courtney; daughter, Kathy Washenfelder and husband, E.J. Ashford; son, Ken Brackin and wife, Rachael; siblings, Exa Fountain, Shirley Chandler, Pat Smith, Wanda Colville, Joyce Poss, and Sue Bass; grandchildren, Kim Bell, Melissa Aldridge, David Washenfelder, Chad Washenfelder, and Melanie Stehle; great-grandchildren, Alex Aldridge, Sam Bass, Mai Ly Hagan, Tristan Hagan, Sophia Washenfelder, Mia Washenfelder, Haley Stehle, PFC Hayden Stehle, Justin Sonnier, Alexa Brackin, and Jacie Brackin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sissy and Connie. I am saddened by the passing of your mother. I always felt close to her since I was at the fire station all those years. She always had a pleasant smile and her words were always right on cue during some times of stress. I even remember talking with your dad in the fire station parking lot, Now they are together again. What a beautiful couple they were. ( I lost my wife, Sylvia, this past November, so I feel your sense of loss.) God Bless you all.

Although “Nanny” isn’t directly related to me, she is my sister Helen’s mother-in-law. Nanny always welcomed me into her home with open arms whenever I visited her with my sister Helen. A loving kind gentle woman whom I love dearly (how could you not). I’ll remember her fondly. May she rest peacefully, God Bless her. My sincere condolences to all her family.
