Jay Edgar Garth, Sr.

April 22, 1933 - July 24, 2023

Jay Edgar Garth, Sr., 90, of Beaumont, died Monday, July 24, 2023. He was born on April 22, 1933, to Cecile Tatum Garth and James William Garth, Jr.

Jay was born and raised in Beaumont where he grew his career, his company, and his relationships with family. He was instrumental in the development of Beaumont. Jay was an avid golfer, tennis player, and enjoyed a good day out fishing or working in his garden. Jay was a lifetime member of the NRA and TSRA and extremely proud to be a Texan. He was devoted to his late wife, Paula, and is truly at rest now with her. His warm smile and happy attitude will be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his children, Jay Edgar Garth, Jr. of Huntington, Gayle Garth of Magnolia, Carrie Garth of Beaumont, and Cecile Garth of Denton and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Paula S. Garth; and sister, Gayle Garth Anglin.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Intrepid Hospice staff and the many wonderful private caregivers for their loving care during a difficult time.

A gathering of Mr. Garth’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium.

    I got to know Jay when my great Aunt Helen was getting older and needed additional care. Very fine gent. I know he was big on family, friends, and his community. I feel blessed to have come across him in our extended family.

    Always enjoyed my visits with Jay and they were upbeat and I appreciated his work ethic.
