Deepest sympathy to all the family and especially to Coach John Callahan. It seems like only yesterday that Brent, as a very young child, would occasionally come to basketball practices at B.H.S. Purple Gym where his dad was my favorite coach. So very sorry for the loss.

    Jeanette Hastings says:

I was Coach Hastings wife and Kim’s mom. We all loved Byrd and he was always a pleasure to be around, so respectful to me, win or lose! I will never forget sitting in the stands and the first kid out of the locker room was him running over to take Kim from me. The stories we sat around and told years later still brings tears and laughter to me. I can just imagine Dick’s grin when he meets his basketball player once again in heaven!!

    Sherry McCarble Garrett says:

Fly high Byrd. You were always such a sweet guy in school. You will be greatly missed.

I loved my old friend dearly, so many memories flooding in…Rip Byrd, you will always be loved and greatly missed.

    Kim Hastings Seward says:

My dad was Byrd’s coach at French High School. I was probably 4 years old and Byrd would carry me on his shoulders around the gym. I thought he hung the moon – and my dad started calling me Byrd. My family still calls me Byrd to this day. Even though we haven’t been in touch with Byrd since those high school years – I still have great memories of him. I’m so sorry for your loss!

    STACY BERNARD says:

Kathy, so sorry to hear this. May prayers are with you.

    Curtis Weeks says:

Byrd Callahan was a terrific guy, we spent hours playing ball together at Rogers Park, or when he and his guys would come over to Forest Park’s gym on summer nights.

And his Father, Coach John Callahan, was my favorite coach ever. Praying for the family.

    Rest in peace, Byrd!
