John Goodhue

November 18, 1933 - September 28, 2018

John “Forrest” Goodhue, 84, of Silsbee, died Friday, September 28, 2018. He was born on November 18, 1933, in Beaumont, to Marie Huey Goodhue and John B. Goodhue. Forrest proudly served his country in the United States Army and later retired as a draftsman for Southern Avionics Company.

Forrest was a fifth generation Goodhue from Beaumont. As a young man, he went to Culver Academy in Culver, Indiana. While there, he enjoyed the equestrian program and was part of the Calvary. Following, he went into the army and was stationed in Libya, Africa. After serving in the army, Forrest came home to work for his father in the family business, Southern Avionics, as an engineer, draftsman, and later as a pilot of the company plane. After retiring, he went into his first love of art of any medium, including photography, drawing, sculpture, and clay/pottery. Forrest worked with students, helping, encouraging, and mentoring them at Lamar University Art Department.

Forrest and Jean loved to travel and have been all over the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Bora Bora. He also loved New Orleans and jazz music.

Forrest loved his family and cherished his kids and grandkids. He was involved in their lives and encouraged them however he could.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Goodhue; sons, Brooks Goodhue; John Goodhue and his wife, Lauren; and Stephen Garrett and his wife, Jana; daughters, Kristie Burns and her husband, Brent and Misty Coleman and her husband, Paul; step sons, Dale Slaughter and his wife, Monique, and Ricky Slaughter; and grandchildren, Brittany Goodhue, John Brooks Goodhue, III, Kayley Goodhue, Daisie Garrett, Blake Burns, Kyle Burns, Paul Coleman, III, and Luke Coleman. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Alvin Felix Goodhue.

A gathering of Forrest’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Broussard’s, with his interment to follow at Franks Branch Cemetery, Fred.
