Juanita Louise Kahla

November 10, 1934 - October 17, 2023

Juanita B. Kahla was born in Smith County, Texas on November 10, 1934, to Louis and Gertrude Bruce. She died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, and entered eternal rest on October 17, 2023.

She attended Anahuac High School and graduated in 1952. She retired from the Chambers County Extension Office where she was employed for twenty-five years. She loved working in the yard, especially mowing her grass, and enjoyed the occasional cruise and many trips to the casinos in Louisiana. She often stopped to eat Mexican food any chance she got while traveling. Juanita was also on a bowling league in Beaumont where she became quite the bowler. She loved dancing and living life to the fullest.

She is survived by her son, James “Jimmy” Kahla and longtime friend, Rever Bourque, both of Stowell; granddaughters, Kandi Thornton, Heather Hancock, and Kylar Kahla, of Winnie; great-granddaughter, Remi Thornton; brother, Jack Bruce and wife, Mylinda, of Cove; brother-in-law, Michael R. Kahla, of Winnie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Juanita is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert R. Kahla; sister, Gertrude Bruce Fontenot; brother, Richard L. Bruce; and longtime friend, Ray Young.

A gathering of Juanita’s family and friends will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2023, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
