Kyle Martin Kempe

October 25, 1957 - April 14, 2024

Kyle Martin Kempe, 66, of Metairie, Louisiana, died at home after a short illness Sunday, April 14, 2024.  He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, October 25, 1957.  He was the son of the late Helen Kerr Kempe and Gerald Lloyd Kempe.

Kyle lived a military family life and once said, “I’ve lived from the desert to the swamps with many detours along the way.” Kyle graduated from Spectrum High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He received his Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Houston in 1981.  His intelligence took him far in his career.  He developed and wrote the program SABRE in 1996 which was used in the travel industry.

His hobbies included his obsessive love for anything Star Trek. He also loved everything about NASA, including his UFO curiosity.  He was a member of the Association of Computing Machinery since 1980 and the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbaccus, a science fiction theme Mardi Gras Krewe.

He is survived by his co-worker and longtime friend, Steve Daniels; and by his paternal first cousins, Cindy (Dave) Landry, Nancy (John) Belanger, Janet Houtz, Celia H. Kenney, Graham (Beth) Houtz, Monica (Bill) Folse, Laura Hough and Marcia (Sonya) Houtz and other Kempe relatives. Other survivors are his Kerr family. Kyle recently connected with his biological sisters, Kris B. Moore and Sandra B. (Steve) Evans and found out about his late biological brother, Kurt Boubek.

The funeral service for Mr. Kempe will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

    Sending my thoughts and prayers to both family and friends. I can’t perform the Vulcan salute but I imagine that Kyle would still tell us all to “live long and prosper”. I hope that the services give you all a chance to celebrate his memory and take comfort in his peace.
