Leslie Joseph Holmes, Jr.
Leslie Joseph Holmes, Jr., 87, of Beaumont, died Thursday, November 25, 2021, at his current residence in Lumberton, with his loving family by his side. He was born September 12, 1934, in LaPlace, Louisiana, to Roline Madere Holmes and Leslie Joseph Holmes, Sr.
He was a 1955 graduate of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he excelled in football and track. He set several Louisiana state records and received numerous medals and awards for his accomplishments in these sports and was awarded a scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. He also served in the United States Army National Guard. He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Beaumont Chemical Plant after 35 years of service and was a Shift Foreman at the time of his retirement. He loved to hunt and spent many memorable years with his family at the “Deer Camp” and also enjoyed family gatherings at the “Holmes Cabins” at Crystal Beach. He also loved watching LSU football and baseball with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Holmes Rusche and husband, Howard, of Beaumont; Cindy “Lulu” Holmes and wife, Dana Dorman, of Lumberton; Linda Holmes Jeansonne and husband, Mark, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; sons, Ricky Holmes and wife, Alline, of Sour Lake; and Clint Holmes and wife, Anjie, of Beaumont; sister, Julie Holmes Landry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; grandchildren, Trey Alvey and wife, Angie, of Nome; Amy Alvey Toler and husband, Dan of Tarkington; Aerial Holmes of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; Elaina Jeansonne of Baton Rouge and Andre Jeansonne and wife Kellie, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Dylan Holmes and wife, Adrian of Katy; Cassie Holmes Whiteley and husband, Justin of Alvin; great-grandchildren, Emma and Ella Alvey; Dawkins Toler; Bralynn and Gracelynn; Avery Whiteley; Oliver Holmes and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leslie is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Betty Malone Holmes; his parents, and his sisters, Elaine Holmes Kirk and Patricia Holmes Matthews, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
A gathering of Leslie’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. There will be a reception following the visitation on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. for all friends and family at St. Stephens Episcopal Church Parish Hall located at 4090 Delaware Street, Beaumont, 77706. His funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Broussard’s, with the Honorable Rev. Keith Giblin presiding, with his interment to follow at China Cemetery in China.
Pallbearers are his Grandsons and Son-in-laws Trey Alvey, Andre’ Jeansonne, Dylan Holmes, Justin Whiteley, Mark Jeansonne, and Howard Rusche. Honorary pallbearer is Leslie’s nephew Korey Matthews who is currently serving in the military overseas.
The family would like to express our love and gratitude to B.J. Butler, Brenda Boler, and Ginger Keneson for the excellent care they provided to our parents for the past 4 years. We would also like to thank the staff at Texas Home Health for their prompt and attentive care.

A good man and well liked by all who worked with him. He was my Shift Forman for several years. I had great respect for him and his leadership. Prayers to all his family.
Les will will be missed by many. He was a very nice and kind gentleman. He and Betty really enjoyed coming to
the restaurant and getting Chicken Salad sandwiches. He
would usually buy enough for everyone. RIP LES????????????????????
