Mae Inez Broussard Curtis

March 21, 1926 - January 2, 2021

Mae Inez Broussard was born to Marie Armeda Babineaux and Theo Broussard on March 21, 1926 in Kaplan, Louisiana. She had three sisters, Edress, Agnes, and Lorena and three brothers, Rufus, Clifton and Alvin. During her childhood, Mae grew up on a cotton and vegetable farm in Louisiana. At the age of 17, she graduated with honors from Kaplan High School as Valedictorian. She won awards for her mastery of the French language. She married J N David, a US Navy seaman from Kaplan and moved to California with her new husband during his military service. After the service they moved to Texas and settled in Beaumont. Mae was so happy to be blessed with two sons, Gerald and Carl, and two daughters, Darlene and Becky. They blessed her life with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild. 

Mae’s career included banking, Certified Medical Assistant, Office Nurse and Mary Kay Cosmetics beauty consultant for over 25 years.  

Mae had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ and provided a faithful example to her children.  She was devoted to her church and active as a leader in the volunteer organizations where she worked tirelessly in true service to others. She was a loving, giving and loyal friend to all those who knew her and was particularly dedicated to Saint Paul’s and Trinity United Methodist Churches. In 2008 after the death of her husband James Curtis, Mae moved to California to live with her daughter Becky and grandson Jeff who cared for her until her passing into the Lord’s care on January 2, 2021 in Northridge, California. 

Left to treasure her memory and carry on her legacy are:

Mae’s children, Robert Gerald (Bonnie) David of Fairfax, Virginia;, Carl (Amy) David of Laguna Niguel, California;Darlene (Albert) Hart of Silsbee, Texas ; and Rebecca Owens of Porter Ranch, California. Mae’s  grandchildren, Adam (Cindy) Hart of Whitehall, Montana; Jeff Biscamp of Porter Ranch, California, Alycia Hart (Shane) of Baytown, Texas;  Dr. Elizabeth (Andrew) Soulakis of Pasadena, California; Regina (Shane) Perio of Lumberton, Texas;  Sarah David of Laguna Niguel, California and  Andrew David of Laguna Niguel, California.

Mae’s great grandchildren,  Shea (Lucas) Loe of LaMarque, Texas; Tony (Katy) Hart of Waco, Texas; Saesha Wilson of Huntsville, Texas;  Jacob Wilson of Baytown, Texas; Haylie Hart of Vidor, Texas; Hayden Hart of  Vidor, Texas;  Chloe Plunkett of Lumberton, Texas; Caroline Elizabeth Soulakis of Pasadena, California; Skye Perio of Lumberton, Texas; TJ Soulakis of  Pasadena, California; and Leo Soulakis of Pasadena, California.

Mae’s great-great-grandchild, Miya Loe of LaMarque, Texas.  

Also cherishing sweet memories are many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were all so very dear to Mae.

Mae will be remembered for her grace, beauty, undying love for the Lord and for her love and devotion to family and friends.   

Due to Covid pandemic restrictions, an early summer memorial is planned. Services will be updated at the appropriate time.

In the late 80s and into the 90s, Mae and I were involved in church together at Trinity UMC through the United Methodist Women. She was a delightful, caring and hard-working lady. We became friends early on, and I have such fond memories of her. I look forward to seeing her again one day on that beautiful shore.
