Martha Walker

Martha Jane Walker, 77, of Beaumont, died Friday, February 16, 2018, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. She was born on October 24, 1940, to Wilma Agnes Randolph and J.C. King, in Guntersville, Alabama. Jane had many pastimes including sewing and quilting, and loved to cook for her family – especially “biscuits and gravy” for her 4 grandsons, who could never seem to get enough”.  She was a very proud mother of 2, grandmother of 9, and great-grandmother of 1.  It seemed she always needed a bigger purse to hold all her pictures that she was ever-ready to share with whomever she might be near at the moment.

Jane spent 40 years learning, leading and running business offices for hospitals and health care.  She enjoyed her work very much but always considered her greatest treasures to be those friendships made along the way. Jane’s quick wit and slightly off-color humor made her someone easy to confide in, and her deep loyalty and compassion made her a safe-but-not-soft haven for the hurting and broken.

Survivors include her daughter, Lenee Wong and her husband, Jack, of Beaumont; son, Bart Mathis and his wife, Chiyuki, of Spring Hill, Tennessee; sisters, Judy Eggert and her husband, William and Pam Brown, all of Jasper, Tennessee; grandchildren, Trey Wong and his wife, Hillary; Trevor Wong; Trent Wong; Troy Wong; Sarah Mathis; Rachel Mathis; Naomi Mathis; Lily Mathis; and Cadence Mathis; and great-grandchild, Emmy Wong.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Horace Mathis and James Herman Walker; and brothers, Clyde King, Winsor King, Boyd King, Ricky King, and Donald King.

A gathering of Mrs. Walker’s family and friends will begin at 2:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, 483 West Main Street, Liberty, Tennessee.
