Marvin Howard Taylor

July 19, 1942 - April 6, 2024

Marvin Howard Taylor of Lumberton, Texas passed away on Saturday April 6 after reaching the age of 81 years old.

He was born on July 19, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas to Grace Ida Gore Taylor and J.C. Taylor. He was one of seven siblings that he cherished and protected throughout their childhood. As a very young man he learned to work hard and provide for his family. He was an avid carpenter and could build anything – even if it meant telling someone else how to do it. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Freddie Sue and they married after three short months of dating. You could often find them at the rodeo arena or dirt track cheering for his boys and keeping them out of trouble. He loved to be in the middle of whatever was happening at the time from the lake, mudding, social events, or just sitting around a camp fire listening to George Jones. He didn’t miss much!

Marvin was the glue of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give the shirt off his back. He was referred to as Uncle Marvin or Pawpaw by everyone, but his favorite title was Pawpaw. His grandbabies were the apple of his eyes until the great-grandbabies came along…. And well you know how that goes. This man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be enormously missed by everyone.

He is preceded in death by his wife Freddie Sue Taylor; parents, J.C. and Grace Taylor; son, Marvin Howard “Skipper” Taylor, Jr.; siblings, Jerry Taylor, Jim Taylor, Larry Taylor, and Tommy Taylor; and brother-in-laws, Jerry Bryant and Kevin Phelps.

Marvin is survived by his children, Shane Taylor and his wife, Tina; and Reggie Taylor and his wife, Charla, all of Lumberton; grandchildren, Rachael Ryan and her husband, Jeremey; Cydni Stegall and her husband, Josh; Kristin McDonald and her husband, Chase, all of Lumberton; Kelsey Walters and her husband, Jeremy, of Kountze; Carley Henley, Cameron Thibodeau, Robert Tunnell, Jr., and Cody Oglesbee; great-grandchildren, Trace French, Hunter Walters, Evie Walters, Finley Stegall, Maxwell McDonald, and Scottie McDonald; siblings, Judy Bryant and Kathy Phelps; and countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will include, Todd Atkins, Jerry Don Atkins, Edward Bragg, Donnie Taylor, Jimmy Poe, and Turbo Simmons.

A gathering of Mr. Taylor’s family and friends will be at 10:00 a.m. with his memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road in Silsbee.

Marvin gave me a job one time when I was down on my luck. He didn’t really know me but he took a chance. That’s the kind of fellow he was and I’ve never forgotten his help and kindness. He often wanted to come off as gruff but if you ever saw him with a baby or a puppy you knew it was just an act. Rest well old friend.
