Mary “Sissy” Hale Salim

July 13, 1957 - December 15, 2022

Mary “Sissy” Hale Salim, 65, of Beaumont, died Thursday, December 15, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born on July 13, 1957, to Helen Marie Shelton Hale and William H. “Bill” Hale, in Syracuse, New York.

Sissy loved being at the beach. She could often be seen beach combing, collecting sea glass, or just relaxing watching the waves with a cool adult beverage in her hand.Spending time with her friends, Kim, Pat, Devin and Joann was always a joy for Sissy. She also went on many crazy road trips with “the sisters”, with whom she was inseparable. Those “adventures” always resulted in getting lost and hysterical laughter.

Besides her gentleness and steadfastness, Sissy was generous with her time and always supported anything that her nieces and nephews were doing.

Holding everything inside, and being very private, Sissy hated drama. But she was the one who always knew what was happening in our large family. She could listen to our carrying on without getting sucked in. Our Sissy kept our stories; our triumphs and our troubles. We told her everything, and she carried everything in her heart.

Sissy’s greatest legacy, however, was her family. Nick Salim was the love of her life, and together, they raised two fine young men, David and Adam. Those boys doted on her and absolutely adored her. Sissy also welcomed her daughter-in-law, Chelsee into her circle of love and thought the world of her. But, her absolute joy were her two grandsons. Even on her worse days, she would light up and gain strength just from seeing those grand babies.

Cancer tried to take away Sissy’s dignity, but it did not succeed. It could not take away her quiet beauty, her gentle spirit, nor her fierce love. We will miss her terribly.

Survivors include her sons, David Salim and his wife, Chelsee, of Beaumont and Adam Salim of Nederland; brother, Joe Hale and his wife, Sharon, of Friendswood; sisters, Sherry Maniscalco and her husband, Joe, of Lumberton; Teresa McReynolds and her husband, James, of Beaumont; and Kim Manuel and her husband, Paul, of Beaumont; brother-in-law, Sam Salim, Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Lumberton; sister-in-law, Sulyn Hale; and grandchildren, Maverick Salim and Stetson Salim.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nicholas Joe Salim; and brothers, Marty Hale and Mark Hale.

A gathering of Mrs. Salim’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil recited at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
