Miriam Jeanette Downing

October 11, 1941 - November 23, 2022

Miriam Jeanette Downing, 81, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022.  She was born on October 11, 1941, in Overton, to Toy Vernon Stanley and Hamp Paralee Stanley.

Mrs. Downing attended Nederland High School before moving to Silsbee.  She owned and operated Stanley’s Nursery in Silsbee for over twenty years.  Blessed with a green thumb, she always had the most beautiful yard.  Besides working in her yard, Mrs. Downing enjoyed traveling in her motor home, reading, animals, and music.  She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and Maw Maw.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Kenneth Downing; son, Lynn Burkhead of Silsbee; daughters, Dena Roane and her husband, James, of Silsbee and Jill Downing-Brown and her husband, Bob, of Wimberley; grandchildren, Justin Burkhead and his wife, Cindy; Beau Burkhead; and Gage and Brina Jones; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Leatha Humphries; and brothers, Claude Stanley, Carl Stanley, and Cyril Stanley.

Mrs. Downing’s committal will be handled by Broussard’s Crematorium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Southeast Texas, 2050 Spindletop, Beaumont, Texas 77705.
