Moses Thomas, Sr.

On the early morning of November 5, 2023, God and God alone brought to a close the life of Moses Thomas Sr.

Moses was born on January 25, 1946, in Opelousas, La., to Daniel Thomas and Helen Harrison Thomas.

Growing up in Opelousas Moses was always a hard-working young man, later years in Winnie, Texas he worked as a rice farmer for over thirty years until his time of retirement. Moses was a quiet and humble man, and our hearts are broken now that he is not here on earth with us, but we know he is in a better place. We his family, adored him and his presence will be missed always. He loved his children and grandchildren very much.

Moses family moved to Stowell, Texas in 1966 where he met the love of his life Mary Jane King. Moses and Mary Jane were united in Holy Matrimony in April 1969, and to this union three children was born.

He leaves to mourn yet cherishing his precious memories, his son Moses Thomas Jr., and daughter-in-law Shanna Nicole Thomas of Winnie, Tx, two daughters Mary Zulia Carr and Wanda Lynn Thomas both of Beaumont, Tx, four brothers Rev. Daris Thomas and Nathaniel Thomas of Stowell, Tx, Carlton Thomas of Willspoint, Tx, and Peter Thomas (Jackie) of York, Pennsylvania; six sisters Shirley Thomas of Orlando, Florida, Stella Mayo of Ocala, Florida, Rose Leger of Bremerton, Washington, Gertrude Johnson, Helen Williams and Theresa Edwards (Phillip) all of Opelousas, La., one sister-in-law Mary Ella Thomas of Stowell, Tx. grandchildren, Shafinie Thomas, Justin Frank, Ashly Carr, Kevin Carr, Jr., and his wife, May, Shayla Semien, Ashlin Thomas, Moses Thomas III, Natasha Thomas, Mya Thomas, Jamikel Thomas, great-grandchildren, Justin Comeaux, Jr., Jalyll Comeaux, Jelis Comeaux, Aminah Robinson, Zachariah Sam, Raysean Dillard, Khalil Dillard, Klynn Carr, Mylah Carr, and Jordon Simien.

He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Thomas and Helen Harrison Jones, his ex-wife Mary Jane King Thomas, brothers Rev. Lionel Thomas and Alfred Thomas, sisters Mary Thomas, Joyce Johnson, and Ida Leday. Maternal grandparents Frazier Harrison and Eniza Denton Farris, Paternal grandparents Henry Thomas and Estella Gardiner Thomas; brothers-in-law Edwards Johnson Jr., J. D. Leday Sr., Curley Mayo, Leon Woody Johnson and Lloyd Williams, sister-in-law Katherine Morgan Thomas.

A gathering of Mr. Thomas’ family and friends will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.

The family acknowledges with grateful appreciation every act of kindness (Special thanks to God Almighty) shared with us during the loss of our loved one Moses Thomas, you may have said a prayer, made a visit or just thought of us we thank you. The family extends a special thanks to The Arboretum Nursing Home and Staff, Baptist Hospital ICU Nursing Staff, Mid-Jeff Rehab Center and Nursing Staff, Ricky and Helen Thibodeaux, Virlee Johnson, and Michael Leday. – The Thomas Family
