Murlene Blanchard

July 25, 1947 - December 9, 2023

Murlene Blanchard, 76, of Winnie, died Saturday, December 9, 2023. She was born July 25, 1947, in Nederland, to Ella Mae Sonnier Ortego and Nellard Joseph Ortego.

Murlene enjoyed dancing to Cajun music and going out with her friends. Murlene spent most of her life in the food industry serving the wonderful people of the Winnie community.  Most of all, she loved her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Billy Johnson and wife, Dawn of Winnie; daughters, Kathy Humphries, of Jena, Louisiana, and Laine Sorter and husband, Gene, of Winnfield, Louisiana; six grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Blanchard; sister, Rita Gayle; and brother, Roger Lee.

A gathering of Mrs. Blanchard’s family and friends will be 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie, with her interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
