Robert “Bobby” Bourque

July 14, 1947 - March 13, 2024

Robert “Bobby” Bourque, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to the late Dennis Bourque and Viola Bourque on July 14, 1947. Bobby’s life was a testament to hard work, dedication, perseverance and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Raised in Nederland, Texas, by hardworking and industrious parents, Bobby graduated from Nederland High School in 1966. From high school, he joined the Army National Guard. Even from a young age, he exhibited a strong work ethic, excelling in various jobs until he secured a much-coveted position with Texaco, later known as Motiva Enterprises. Bobby’s no-nonsense approach to managing people, quickly earned him respect as he climbed the ranks to Management.

In 1969, Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Pamela “Pandy” Braziel, with whom he shared 34 years of cherished memories while raising their children, until her passing in 2003. Later, Bobby was blessed to find love again with Leni Lumbley Carothers, whom he married in 2011. After living in Beaumont, they retired to Kerrville, Texas, where they created new memories,  enjoying the tranquility of the hill country until his passing.

Bobby leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. He is survived by his mother, Viola Bourque; his wife, Leni Bourque; his daughter, Tamela “Tangee” Griffin, along with his son-in-law Jim Griffin; and his three beloved grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, and Lawson; his son, Tanner Bourque; his two stepsons, Tyler and Colin Carothers; his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Marilyn Bourque; his niece, Amy Jackson; nephews, Morgan Bourque and Frankie Draa; and his beloved dog, Mojo.

Bobby’s faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life. He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age and grew up actively involved in church. He was a dedicated member of North End Baptist Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, Procter Baptist Church, Church on the Rock, and Southern Oaks Baptist Church, located in Kerrville, Texas.

Throughout his 52-year tenure at Motiva Enterprises, Bobby made countless friends and honed his skills for managing people and identifying issues before they became problems. In his off time, you could find Bobby teaching RAs, coaching basketball, playing on the co-ed team at church in volleyball or softball, or coaching his son in various sports, specifically excelling as the Nederland North Little League Baseball Coach. Bobby had a passion for sports and was a lover of the great outdoors. He enjoyed keeping horses, fishing, birding, photography and wildlife. Bobby  found pleasure in taking extensive trips. One of his favorite destinations being Yellowstone National Park.

Bobby was a captivating storyteller, regaling loved ones with tales from his colorful life, spanning from his adventurous childhood to his accomplished adulthood. He was known for his intelligence, no nonsense personality, love of his family and sincerity; always making time for those he held dear, those who needed help, or just a listening ear. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, Maryland 21741, in Bobby’s memory.

A gathering of  Bobby’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., with a celebration of his life and faith to follow at 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, 3650 North Dowlen Road, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Bobby Bourque’s legacy of love, faith, and honesty will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace, knowing he touched the lives of many with his unwavering spirit.

    Don’t know where to begin with the impact this man had on my life. I was a contractor who worked for him at MOTIVA. Bobby was an amazing mentor who never settled for anything less than, your best! Thank you, “Double B” for all that you taught me….you will be so missed.     Bobby will be deeply missed . His presence brought so much warmth and positivity to our days, and his hard work and dedication were an inspiration to us all. His unique perspective and incredible talents will always be remembered. Bobby always willing to help our Track dept. and knew every unit and could take notes like no other. We were lucky to see his humorous side.

    We can thank Bobby for the memories and the impact he made on our work lives. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace my friend.
