Ronnie Chessher

December 23, 1947 - June 24, 2023

Ronnie Chessher, 75, of Beaumont, died Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on December 23, 1947, in Livingston, Texas, to Verna and Weaver Chessher.

The youngest of four boys, Ronnie spent his early childhood years in Schwab City, and then the family relocated to Kountze around 1957 when his father, Weaver, co-founded Chessher Sutton Oil Field Construction.  Ronnie graduated from Kountze High School in 1966 and served as Student Body President and a captain of the football team.  Following graduation from Kountze High School, Ronnie attended Sam Houston State University from 1966-1970, studying business.

In 1970, Ronnie began working full-time at Chessher Sutton Oil Field Construction alongside his father and older brother, Ferral Chessher.  Ronnie devoted his entire professional career to the oil field industry and was a legendary figure in the Southeast Texas oil field community.  Dutifully committed to the men that he supported as a leadership figure in the industry, Ronnie treated everyone that he supported like family, oftentimes working alongside multiple generations of coworkers.  Ronnie took great pride in his work, and meticulously planned his days with extensive “to do” lists and well-developed bid projections.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of twenty-three years, Ella Marie Chessher; stepdaughter, Tamara Jannise and her husband, Dale; step-grandchildren, Emma, Abby, Braeden, Reagan and Peyton; son, Reagan Chessher; daughter-in-law, Catherine Chessher; grandson, Callaway; granddaughter, Caroline; and niece and nephew, Melissa and Mike Chessher.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his parents, Weaver and Verna; brothers, Gerral, Richard, and Ferral; and nephew, Jason.

On behalf of Ronnie’s family, we want to thank the ICU doctors and nurses at Christus Southeast Texas St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Harbor Hospice, for the compassionate care that they administered to Ronnie.

Always a voice of reason in the oilfield. Really enjoyed the multitude of ‘bid showings’ when Ronnie was in attendance. Always counted him as a tough competitor but a good friend.
