Ruby Charline Smart

October 10, 1932 - February 25, 2021

Ruby Charline Smart, 88, of Silsbee, died Thursday, February 25, 2021.  She was born on October 10, 1932, in Silsbee, to Ruby Cook Hargraves and Charles Paul Hargraves.

Mrs. Smart was a firm but supportive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always liked to make sure no one went hungry. She was known for being a strong, young mother who worked hard to support herself and her children. She was a god-devoted woman who went to church every Sunday until she didn’t have the strength to get out of the house and even then, she read her bible devotedly. There was hardly a thing you could do to dull this remarkable woman’s drive. She constantly pushed herself to the limits trying to care for others and ensure no one else need care for her. This hard-headedness is what kept her kicking for eighty-eight long years.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Graves of Silsbee; grandchild, Jenny Graves Hatton of Silsbee; great-grandchildren, Jaydin Hatton, Sophie Booker, and Cypress Hawkins; and siblings, Ella Faye Woodsmall and her husband, Ed, of Fannett and Charline Paulette Gale and her husband, Duane.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Lonnie Carl Smart; grandson Paul Jason Graves; and siblings, Evelyn Odom, Mary Evelynn Cotton, and Charles Paul Hargraves, Jr.

A gathering of Mrs. Smart’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 1, 2021, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her interment will follow at Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee,

I remember when I was a teenager, Aunt Ruby carried me to Beaumont,Texas to see special events. I enjoyed every trip. She enriched my life with on each of these trips. She was very generous and a loving aunt to me. I will miss you very much, but I know you are in a better place and not hurting any more.

Martha I am so sorry I meant to ask you about your mom Tuesday night ,,so sorry a day after her sister's funeral. You all are in my prayer's. When my sister passed away in December we were making her arrangements and her sister-in-law that she was close to passed away.. we had two funerals in one week. Prayer for your mother was always so sweet and kind to me

So sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. I worked with her at the mill. She was fast paced and a hard worker. Somewhat stubborn but a wonderful friend. Prayers to Martha and family

Aunt Ruby always had a kind word for me when we would meet. She will be missed but I know in my heart she was ready to go rest in Heaven with her sister, son and grandchild. Love you Aunt Ruby.
