Sandra Rogers

September 25, 1943 - September 25, 2018

Sandra Lynn Gray Rogers, 75, of Nederland, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018. She was born on September 25, 1943, in Woodville, to Mildred and Jack Gray.

Sandra graduated from Nederland High School in 1962. It was here, where she formed lifelong friends and started developing a true love for the community. This is also where she started her greatest hobby of scrapbooking. She actually saved the very first piece of chewing gum from her first date.

She went on to work for Gulf States Utilities in 1964, where once again, she formed lifelong friends and met the love of her life, Bert. All of her friends would always join together and travel to Gilley’s, meet at Live Wires, and spend time together throughout the years.

As the years went by, Sandra’s hobby of taking pictures grew. The lives she touched with her camera are countless. Sandra turned into the City of Nederland’s historian with her lens. Her and Bert were at every soccer game, or event that their son ever attended. The memories that she helped preserve are priceless to those that came in contact with her.

Her next passion came about when Bert decided to start running for the School Board and later City Council. She turned into a campaign manager and her involvement in politics was born. Her passion and drive for the Republican Party, once again brought about another set of true friends. There is a theme here. She worked tirelessly on every single campaign.

Sandra and Bert were both members of Wesley United Methodist Church. Once again, she was the church historian. She always had a camera ready, even in the middle of church.

Survivors include her son, Derron Rogers of Nederland; brother and sister-in-law, James and Judy Gray of Nederland; step-son, Bert Rogers, Jr. of Beaumont; step-daughter, Becky Rogers and her spouse, B.J., of Hutto; great-grandson, Elijah Rogers, whom she loved dearly; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and several aunts and uncles, that she loved more than anything.

A gathering of Sandra’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3515 Helena Avenue, Nederland. Cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Sandra was not a flower person. In lieu of flowers, please cast your vote for the Republican Party in the upcoming election. That is what she would have wanted, just as much as everyone celebrating her and Bert’s life.

There are hardly any memories from my high school years that don’t include Mrs. Rogers, and even a few from beyond (my wedding, many of our friends’ weddings, our reunions, etc...). And I have many books of photographs made with love by Mrs. Rogers that I will cherish forever. She spent her time and money preserving memories for all of Derron’s friends, and for that, I will forever be grateful.

I was so sad and sorry to hear the news about Sandra. She was such a sweet and unselfish person. I, just like many, met Sandra through the photos taken of my girls (Lauren and Lindsay Cessac) throughout their high school years. But, the highlight for me , was when she attended Lauren and Blake’s wedding. She not only took photos, but actually took the time to put together a mini album. I will cherish that forever. Extending my heartfelt sympathy and prayers for the Rogers Family.

To Sandra’s family, I’m so sorry for your loss. I met Sandra and Bert the summer of 1971 when I worked at GSU. Both made me feel welcome to their department. She also took pictures at my Mother’s 80th birthday party.. I cherish them . She and Bert are together again.. May many memories bring you comfort in the days ahead..

Sandra was such a swee & loving lady. I worked well th her & Bert at GSU/Entergy. Always a smile & her camera with her. Will really miss reading her stores on our GSU retirees paper. God bless those two as they are now back together once more. Normally when you saw Sandra, loving hubby was right with her. Prayers for the Rogers family & losing your parents so close together is super hard.

Mrs. Sandra is such a special person that we are so fortunate to have met. She was such a giving person as well. She made baseball photo albums, newspaper article copies etc. for Jared and Justin. We will forever remember her and her being such an angel while on this earth. Mr. Bert was a great man and he will be forever remembered also. It is sad they are no longer with us but is comforting to know they are together forever with Jesus. Much love and comfort to your family. Tammy and Harold Walker

Sandra was a co-worker of mine but she was also a kind and good friends to Becky and I She took many photos of our boys in their teenage years. Our son Billy was on the second of many Nederland soccer district championship teams with Bert and Sandra's son Derron. Both Bert and Sandra will be greatly missed by their former co-workers at Gulf States and by the entire Nederland community. a

I just learned of Sandra''s passing. I knew Sandra and Bert from Gulf States Utilities in the early 60s. Such a fine couple. I would see them periodically throughout the years. I am truly sorry for your heartbreak. Tears come so easy now. May God watch over each one and bring you peace.

Miss Sandra was a very special person to my family. Whenever we were visiting in Beaumont she brought us special gifts. She always remembered what we liked and made a point to bring us those things. She shopped for my kids all year long...finding special things for them. She took pictures of us...and they are displayed around our house. I see so many items in our home that remind me of our special friend. She is missed...and loved by our family.

To the Family: My sympathy goes to all of you during your time of grief. May the "God of Comfort" (Psalms 83:18) comfort and help you through this difficult time. And may his promises found at John 6:40 and Acts 24:15, “ ... there is going to be a resurrection...” provide you with strength and hope. We long to see the fulfillment of these promises soon.
