Sharon Linney

Sharon Kay Hatcher Linney, 33, of Beaumont, died Monday, February 27, 2017, at Christus Hospital-St Elizabeth. She was born on February 20, 1984, in Beaumont, to Doddie and Harlan Hatcher. She grew up in Fannett, Texas, with her family, and attended Hamshire-Fannett ISD.

She was one of the original “Kraigen Road Kool Kids.” She was a loving, sweet daughter and granddaughter to her parents and grandparents as well as a caring sister to her siblings Christy, David and Sommer. Sharon Kay was also viewed as a sister by her many cousins who she had special nicknames for. Together they enjoyed countless sleepovers where Sharon Kay (or “KK” as they called her) would put many of them to sleep by rubbing their ears. Kind-hearted and un-selfish “KK” put everyone’s needs before her own. She had a passion for sports and running, and shared an equal love for fashion and shopping. After graduating high school in 2002 Sharon Kay worked at Sutherlands in Beaumont, where she met the love of her life, Derek Linney.

As Sharon’s husband I am not a big believer of fate or destiny, but the way Sharon and I met can be hard to describe as anything short of that.

About 15 years ago Sharon and I both had job interviews at two different companies. We were both offered a job at the different companies, but due to unforeseen circumstances the jobs fell through. So a few days later we both ended up at Sutherlands here in Beaumont for job interviews. We both got the job, her as a cashier and me as a sales floor person. A few weeks later I built up enough courage to actually say something to her. Then one day out of the clear blue she said she was coming over to my house to hang out. Shocked by her statement I didn’t believe her. But to my surprise she showed up. From that point forward we were never separated. Many years passed before I ask her to marry me, not because I didn’t love, but I wanted her to finish school. At that time she was going to school to be a scrub tech. After school we set a date. January 9, 2009. The wedding was amazing. Surrounded by all of our loved ones and friends, we had the best night of our lives. Sharon was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. Later that evening she had her father daughter dance. Her father, unknowingly to Sharon, had shed his shoes for the night so there first dance was in his bare feet. Sharon was upset about this, but I told her would you have it any other way?

Sharon eventually decided that she wanted to go back to school to become an RN. I never doubted her for a second; I knew that she would be successful at anything she wanted to do. 2 years later she had her associate’s degree in Nursing.

The next step of our lives was the biggest decision we had ever had to make, having a child. Within two months Sharon was pregnant. We had the most beautiful baby girl. Zoey Marie Linney. She was the best thing that ever happened to Sharon and I. It made our bond that much stronger, and she was the best mother I have ever seen. She was always striving to keep our Zo Zo as happy as she could be.

Shortly after having Zoey, Sharon told me she wanted to get her bachelor degree in nursing. Sharon was very passionate about helping other people and that’s what she dedicated her life to. She graduated two years later with her bachelor degree and immediately decided she wanted to go to school to get become a nurse practitioner. She was one semester in when we lost her.

Survivors include her husband, Derek Linney and daughter, Zoey “ZoZo” Linney, both of Beaumont; parents, Doddie and Harlan Hatcher of Fannett; siblings, Christy Hatcher and her husband, Bobby Smith, of Winnie; David Hatcher and his wife, Meredith, of LaBelle; and Sommer Lough and her husband, Toby, of Port Arthur; grandparents, Betty Hale and Robert Johnson, of Winnie and Yvonne and Harry Hatcher of Fannett; nieces and nephews, Shelby Hatcher and Allan Long; Canyon and Jadynn Smith; Spencer Hallam; Holden, Reid, and Landry Hatcher; and Emmi Lough; great-niece, Marcie Long “Moo Squishy”; mother and father-in-law, Debbie and David Linney, of Beaumont; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Sharon Kay touched so many people’s lives with her kindness and love. She will be missed by so many people.

A gathering of Mrs. Linney’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2017, at Broussard’s, with her interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
