Shirley Trudeau

November 25, 1923 - December 11, 2017

Shirley M. Trudeau, 89, of Village Mills, died Monday, December 12, 2017.  She was born on November 25, 1928, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Thelma Grady Ferran and Joseph Charles Ferran.  Shirley resided for brief intervals in Galveston, Houston, and Dallas, and Jackson, Mississippi before returning to the Louisiana area.  After a short time back in New Orleans, she moved to Chalmette, Louisiana, where she lived for twenty-five years until her home was destroyed by hurricane Katrina, on August 29, 2005.  Since then she enjoyed life in Wildwood Resort City in Village Mills until her death.

Her business ventures included a ship inventory company from 1943 to 1948 in New Orleans, Louisiana, a roofing and sheet metal company from 1951 to 1953 in Dallas, and a television and appliance store from 1953 to 1956 in Jackson, Mississippi.

From 1956 to 1966 she was employed by General Electric Supply Company in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the credit department as accounts receivable and payable, bookkeeper, and cashier.  In 1966 to 1970 she was assistant to the head bookkeeper for six companies, doing business under the name of J.W. Whitaker and Company in Metairie, Louisiana.  In 1970 to 1974 she was the head of the bookkeeping billing and credit department for Century Medical Laboratories in Metairie, Louisiana before retiring in 1974.

Shirley was one of five founders of the Association of Senior Citizens Club in Chalmette, Louisiana, serving for ten years as treasurer, tour director, and newsletter editor.

Survivors include her soulmate and constant companion, Edward H. Mayeur, with whom she survived hurricane Katrina; son, Wayne Ricki Thompson of Sarcoxie, Missouri; grandson, Ricki James Winstead of Sarcoxie; half-sister, Jean Stock Rumph of Etowah, North Carolina; half-brother, Edwin W. Stock, Jr. of Cary, North Carolina; nieces, Carolyn Rumph Ricaldi of Houston, ginger Rumph of Silver Springs, Maryland, Sara Dale Stock Wills of Austin, and Martha Trudeau of Chicago, Illinois; nephews, Gregory Rumph of Belle Chase, Louisiana and Edwin W. Stock, III of Memphis, Tennessee; a host of grandnieces and grandnephews; special “almost daughter”, Zoe Padilla of Puerto Rico; and her puppy, Amora.

Mrs. Trudeau’s committal was handled by Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
