Stenson E. Terry, Jr.

December 15, 1947 - December 9, 2022

Stenson E. Terry, Jr., 74, of Silsbee, died Friday, December 9, 2022, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born December 15, 1947, in Mayfield, Kentucky, to Eris Adele Lichtenberger Routon and Stenson Edwards Terry, Sr.

Stenson Terry, or as his grandkids lovingly referred to him Grumpa, was a big man with an even bigger heart. His sense of adventure was larger than life.  He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for hunting, fishing, hiking and going to the beach with his loving wife and grandkids.  Stensons greatest pride and joy was his family.  He made everyone feel loved and let them know how important they were to him.  Stenson was quite the prankster and tease.  His spontaneity was undeniable as one would never know where the day would take him.  Stenson and his wife, Teresa , along with friends enjoyed traveling all over the United States on their motorcycles.  Stenson retired from the Beaumont Police Department after dutifully serving as an officer for 32 years.  He was member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club and Cal-Tex motorcycle Club for many years.  Stenson will be greatly missed by his loving friends and family.

Stenson is survived by his spouse, Teresa Terry; children, Deanna Coates and her husband, John, of Sour Lake; Christopher Westfall of Lumberton; Marcos Avila of North Dakota; Maxwell Avila of Silsbee; Michelle Shelton and her husband, Kevin, of Lumberton; Mallory Scott and her husband, Jordan, of Baytown; Mariah Paulus and her husband, Daniel, of Sour Lake; twelve grandchildren; cousins, Janice Terry; Terry Hayes and his wife, Pam; Lynn Hambrick and her husband, Charles, all of Bardwell, Kentucky; and numerous dear friends, loved ones, and extended family throughout the years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Julie Ann Terry; and cousin, Donnie Terry.

A gathering of Mr. Terry’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a Time of Sharing at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.

    I have fond memories of camping trips with Mr. Stenson and my dad James “JT” Hale. He was a nice man and with him and my dad together, there was never a moment that passed without out a joke or a sarcastic comment. I smile knowing these buddies will be reunited in heaven.
