Mary Syble Simon

March 12, 1933 - March 19, 2024

Our beautiful mother, Mary Syble Simon, 91, of Nederland, Texas passed away on March 19, 2024.  Syble was born on March 12,1933 to Elise Luquette and Evert Fournier in Bayou Salle, Louisiana and attended school in Franklin and Abbeville, Louisiana.

Mom’s vocation and joy in life was that of wife, mama, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma to the 104 blessings she called family.  She was a top-notch homemaker exemplifying the Proverbs 31 woman.  As she tended her home for 11, she was frugal, hardworking, creative, innovative, a gifted seamstress, the best Cajun cook and baker, good old remedy nurse, loving advocate for the needs of her family, a devoted sports fan for her children and grandchildren, the greatest example of a God-fearing woman and prayer warrior, as well as forming special life-long friendships with her neighbors on Avenue B, where she resided for 64 years.

Mom never worked outside the home, but instead made her home her life’s work.  During times though when Daddy was on strike at Texaco, she found ways to supplement their income by catering weddings and rolling silk roses by hand to create beautiful bouquets and wedding flowers, and her homemade mints were quite popular with the brides.  She served her St. Charles parish in the Altar Society for 65 years, served on her parish ACTS team, set up for daily Mass, tended to the Altar server robes, washed and ironed the Altar cloths, led the rosary before Mass for many years, served as a CCD teacher in her earlier years, and was a perfect role model to us all of praying faithfully in life.  Mom enjoyed retirement with Daddy spending time at their camp at Toledo Bend and attending the many activities of her grandchildren.

Syble was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 66 years, Raleigh Joseph Simon, her daughter, Kat Jacobs, her granddaughter, Stacy Jacobs, an infant grandson, KJ “Bubba” Worthy, and her sister, Clara Bell Frederick.   She is survived by her children, Sharlyn Spell (Delbert) of Nederland, TX, Jackie Kibodeaux (Earl) of China, TX, Joey Simon (Barbara) of Nederland, TX, Karen Savoie (Mike) of Nederland, TX, Carol Worthy (Keith) of Orangefield, TX, Laurie LeDoux (Kevin) of Port Neches, TX, Kevin Simon of Kountze, TX, Mark Simon of Nederland, TX, her sister, Delores Guidry of Baton Rouge, LA, 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grand, 2 great-great grand, another due to arrive in April. several spouses of her grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Aunt Syble.”

A gathering of Syble’s family and friends will be 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 25, 2024, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with her interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

Our family would like to give heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Rosefield Court in Port Arthur and Harbor Hospice in Beaumont for the attention and loving care they gave to our Mama and Grandma the last six weeks of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice and one of Mom’s favorite charities, St. Jude Research Hospital.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this time! Mrs. Simon was a wonderful friend to my mom, Mary Sudela. I am sure they shared many stories about all the children they both had. She is one of the ladies I will always remember from our time at St. Charles. What a blessing she was. God bless and protect all of you. Love, Rosie
