Thomas Hart Cobb

November 23, 1968 - March 26, 2024

Thomas Hart Cobb passed away on March 26, 2024, in Beaumont, Texas at the age of 55.  Born on November 23, 1968, to Amelie Suberbielle Cobb and the Honorable Howell Cobb, Tom was raised in Beaumont, attended All Saints Episcopal School and Monsignor Kelly High School and graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University. After living in Washington, DC for several years, he returned to Beaumont where he lived until his passing.

Tom never met a stranger. With his beaming smile and big laugh, he was characterized by his dedication to others as a devoted and loyal friend. Tom could make a simple errand a hilarious adventure, sprinkled with laughter and a little silliness. But Tom’s capacity for caring and empathy for others was immeasurable. His gentle soul made him a calming presence to those in a time of need, and he shared his love deeply and profoundly.

Tom’s greatest joy was being a father, which gave meaning and definition to his life. His favorite pastime was traveling with his crew to natural places near and far, as often as they could trailblaze new adventures, big and small. He highly valued the concept of “childlike joy” and as such, was able to see the innate beauty in just about everything and everyone around him.

He is survived by his wife, Meghan Cobb, and his four children, Kate, Jackson, Georgia, and Tucker Cobb.  Tom was blessed to have three stepchildren, Austin, Ava, and Luke.  He is also survived by his mother, Amelie, and siblings, Catherine (David) Cook of Beaumont, Mary Ann (Ray) Walton of Fredericksburg, Caroline (Jimmy) Ervin of Washington, DC, and John (Monica) Cobb of Beaumont, and his sister-in-law Bonnie Cobb of Beaumont.

He is preceded in death by his father and by his brother, Howell Cobb III.

Tom was part of a large and loving family and was adored by his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

To his family, I extend my deepest sympathies during this time of loss. Tom was the first friendly face that I saw on my return from Iraq. We were both in southern California at the time and it was obvious that a San Diego adventure was in the cards. We called Amelie & Howell from a phone booth and shared our plans. Thrilled for our reunion, they advised us to be careful in the big city. Respectfully and promptly, we threw caution to the wind. Our days spent exploring the gas light district. Tom’s smile and charm made it easy to meet people and I was happy to be in his presence. In the evenings, we sat on the balcony till wee hours laughing, telling stories and remembering friends. After that Labor Day weekend; I knew I was home. It was the beginning of the next chapter for us. I won’t forget you, my old friend. My deepest condolences to his wonderful and loving family.

My heart breaks for the many who loved Tom. I remember him as kid and was lucky enough to be called Aunt Gale. I loved watching Tom grow into a handsome , fun loving, gentle man. Peace be with all of his many friends and his family, especially Amelie.

    Jeff McNeill says:

Growing up down the street from the Cobb’s as a kid, there isn’t a time in my life where they were not a part of my life. From backyard low hoop games in the driveway, to front yard football games between the azaleas, we shared lots of adventures. I will always cherish those memories, and some of the stories involving Tom and my brother Brad, which I dare not share here. Thoughts and prayers for all of the Cobb family, and friends from Beaumont, as well all deal with the tremendous loss of such a friend and brother in Tom.

    Ted and Pat Mitchell says:

    Ann Marie Kubala says:

Dear Cobb Family, I am so sorry for your loss.

I was fortunate to know Tom when we were in middle school, although we went to different schools. We were in the same class at Monsignor Kelly High School. A few times during our sophomore and junior years, we would study together. Judge Cobb had recently been appointed a Federal Judge by President Reagan and I was beyond impressed and intimidated by him. If we studied at Tom’s house, before I left, he always made sure I said goodbye to Judge Cobb, who would be in his study reading and always took an interest in what we were studying. If it was American History, Judge Cobb knew way more than anything we had gone over from our textbook and class notes. Tom had great respect for his parents and although we had not been in close contact the past few years, it was obvious how much he loved all his family.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

    Susan Williams says:

Much love to you and wishes for peace and healing as it happens. I will always be here if I can do anything to help you on your way in whatever form you need.
