Ulyesse Edwin Duplant

August 16, 1942 - April 20, 2024

Ulyesse Edwin “Bootsie” Duplant, 81, of Nederland, died with his children by his side Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth.

He was born on August 16, 1942, in Port Arthur, to Doris Sonnier Duplant (deceased ‘14) and Robert Edwin Duplant (deceased ‘66). He was the brother of Joan (Duplant) Cole, Ronald “Ronnie” Duplant (deceased ‘83), Donovan “Donnie” Duplant (deceased ‘92), and Janell (Duplant) McCorkle.

He built a home for his high school sweetheart and wife, Patricia “Pat” Haynes Duplant (deceased ‘17) and their two children, Moni (Duplant) Hopper (husband, Brad), and Bret Edwin Duplant (wife, Carmel). He worked as a lab tech for DuPont for 38 years. On his days off during shrimping season, he would either be found making shrimp nets or on a boat. From the beach to the woods to the mountains, Bootsie loved to be outdoors and in nature. He enjoyed the peace and serenity from his deer blind the most.

After he retired, he enjoyed taking trips with his wife along both coasts of the United States seeing the red wood trees and the lighthouses by the ocean. In the summer, he would be found at the beach cabin with his wife either taking the boat out fishing or out on the jetty crabbing. Opening weekend for deer season with his son, grandsons, and friends was the highlight of his year.
He was Paw Paw to his grandchildren Catherine (Duplant) Rowles (husband, Patrick), Mary Beth Duplant, Garrett Edwin Duplant, Andrew Duplant, Maggie Hopper, Clare Duplant, and Holden Hopper. He was the loudest and proudest fan in the stands at every one of their games, recitals, performances, competitions, and graduations. He cherished moments with his grandchildren where they bonded over hunting, fishing, and crabbing adventures.

He was Big Paw Paw to his great-grandchildren Charlotte Rowles, Patrick “PJ” Rowles, and Violet Rowles. He delighted in sneaking his great grandbabies chocolates and sweets during holiday festivities and visited with them weekly over Facetime calls.

We pray that his soul may now be reunited with the Lord as well as with his wife, whom he so dearly missed and longed to see again.

A Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m., with a gathering of Bootsie’s family and friends to follow until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

I am Mr. Duplant’s dentist assistant at Coastal Dental Care…
This news completely breaks my heart. We both share a love for animals and I have a squirrel named Rocky and Mr. Duplant would always ask about him by name without fail- he was the kindest man ever… i adored him and he never knows that… he will always have a place in my heart. He was very special to me and I can only imagine how powerfully special he must be to his family ❤️ my prayers are with you all

May fond memories of Bootsie bring you comfort during this difficult time in your life. My heart and prayers go out to each of you. May his soul rest in peace. Ray spoke often of so many happy memories he had when all of you spent time at the beach growing up.

Bootsie was proud of his family and scheduled holidays when he could, to spend time with them. He enjoyed his shrimping excursions and sold to his friends at DuPont often. He invited us to his beach cabin where he and Pat were excellent hosts.
We pray for his family; for Moni and Bret, that they will be comforted, and that Bootsie and Pat will see each other in heavenly peace.
