She is survived by daughters, Lori Martin and Carolyn Leday, and her husband, J.D Leday, Jr.; sons, Joseph Martin and his wife, Debra, Allen Martin, Arthur Martin, Larry Martin; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Leanna is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Sarah Martin. Florence was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, playing cards on a Sunday afternoon. She loved having family and friends over. Charles Earl Cole, 87, of Crystal Beach (formerly of Bevil Oaks) passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at home on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Charles was born on June 15, 1936, to R.V. and Edna Cole of Nederland, Texas. He was a proud and active member of the Nederland High School Class of 1954. Following high school, he attended the Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy and attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Following his Honorable Discharge, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves. Leon Hopson was born on August 10, 1950, in Baytown, Texas, to Red and Eva Hopson, and, along with his three sisters, spent most of his life in Hamshire, America. Leon grew up in the shadow of the oilfield and, at the early age of 17, began his career as a deckhand on oil rigs, both on land and in the Gulf of Mexico.  He worked his way through the various rig positions until he became a directional driller.  After working with his father and on his own for many years, in 2003, Leon joined with two friends to create Crescent Directional.  He retired from Crescent in early 2016, and devoted himself as a full time resident at his barn, polishing his tractors, and harassing his friends, of which there were many. After the passing of Dub Syphrett, Belle enlarged her family when she married James Earl Weaver. This added two sons, Jimmy Weaver of Anahuac, and Gary Weaver of Hankamer. Michael Richard Kahla passed away on January 17, 2024, in Winnie, Texas. Born on August 27, 1942, to Erwin and Eula (Harrington) Kahla, he graduated from East Chambers High School in 1960. Although he initially pursued college for three years, he chose to step out and assist his parents at home. In 1963, he was drafted into the Army, where he dedicated his service. Following his military tenure, Michael ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing his own construction company. Later in life, he discovered joy in residing in Mexico, where he spent many fulfilling years. In 2019, he returned to Winnie, making it his home until his passing. He leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Colvin and her husband, Zac, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Colton, Carson, Cash, Max, and Braxton. Doris Chambers Hargraves was born in a boxcar in Nancy, Texas, on May 12, 1925, to her parents, James Talmadge and Grace Best Chambers. She spent her early childhood years in the Rockland, Texas area surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. When she was a young teenager, her father went to work for Humble Oil and the family moved to Goosecreek, near Baytown, where she also had many fond memories. During her high school years, the family relocated to Tenaha, Texas, where her father owned several telephone exchanges. After graduating from Tenaha High School, Doris and her sister moved to Beaumont, for a short time, where she worked at the telephone company. Roland Vigers, Sr., 83, of Winnie, died Sunday, January 14, 2024. He was born August 7, 1940, in Chataignier, Louisiana, to Anna Edwards Vigers and Douglas Vigers. Survivors include his children, Roland Vigers, Jr. and wife, Evelyn; Luciana Rae Hutchings and husband, Calvin; and Kevin Carrier and wife, Shonda; grandchildren, Brian Vigers, Darius Hutchings, Calvin Hutchings, Jr., and Kevin Carrier, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Allannah Carrier; siblings, Milton Vigers, Rose Jean Citizen, Jean Theresa Vigers, Barbara Dick, Gervis Vigers; and godchild, Shirley Poullard Johnwell. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janie Marie Vigers; and siblings, Carlton Vigers and Tolton Vigers. Mr. Vigers’ cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie.
