Troyce Wesley Taylor, 88, died Thursday, June 27, 2024.  He was born on July 15, 1935, in Center, to Pauline Clarke and Alvin Ellis Taylor. Troyce W. Taylor’s life journey was marked by unwavering dedication to his country, community, and cherished family. Enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1955, Troyce proudly served for three years, a period that saw the joyous arrival of his first-born daughter, Rita, during his station in Anchorage, Alaska. Following his military service, Troyce returned to Orange, Texas, before settling in Evadale in 1959, where he and Rose raised their family. Over the years, their family grew with the additions of daughters Paula and Phyllis, followed by son Sonny and youngest daughter Amanda. For 38 years, Troyce dedicated himself to the Evadale community at the paper mill until his well-earned retirement. Martha Jo Simoneaux, 84, of Groves died Wednesday, June 26, 2024. She was born on June 18, 1940, in Beaumont, to Clara Frances Guildard Barlow and Joe Barlow. Margie Sue Smith, 84, of Silsbee died Wednesday, June 26, 2024. She was born on December 30, 1939, in Red River County, to Julia Charlene Kelley Smith and John Walter Smith. Survivors include her children, Julia Woolverton of Shilom Springs, Arkansas; Kelly Whitecotton of Locksberg, Arkansas; and Shanna Adams and her husband, Ricky, of Evadale; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, John W. Smith and his wife, Debra of China, Texas; and Syble Smith of Harpens Ferry, West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles Francis Grillot, 69, of Lumberton, died after an extended illness on Saturday, June 22, 2024.  He was born on November 11, 1954, in Mortsel, Belgium, and adopted by Janice and Irwin Grillot. Charles graduated from Kirby High School in Woodville, Texas and then Texas State Technical Institute in Waco, majoring in Auto Mechanics.  He held various jobs over the years and spent the last twenty-two years working for Lumberton Independent School District, retiring from the Transportation Department. Ronald “Ronnie” Earl Smith, Sr., 78, of Lumberton died Friday, June 21, 2024. He was born on November 19, 1945, in Fairhope, Alabama, to Cleo Boutwell Smith and George RT Smith. Ronnie was the owner and operator of Ronnie’s Garage. There was nothing he couldn’t work on. Engine to transmission- he was your man. He married the love of his life, Linda Smith, at a very young age and they were inseparable. She stole his heart from day one. He loved his family with his whole heart and especially those grandkids and great-grandkids. When he wasn’t working at the shop, he would be fishing and hunting. Valery Danell Puntes, 54, of Silsbee, died Monday, June 10, 2024.  She was born on September 15, 1969, in Beaumont, to Linda Woodward Lawrence and Dan Lawrence. Valery’s artwork can be found all over Southeast Texas, having won several awards.  She was an avid hunter, winning a big buck contest and she loved to fish as well.  Valery was a substitute teacher with the Silsbee Independent School District and a previous member of the Icehouse Museum Board.  She was very knowledgeable of Native American Artifacts, sharing her comprehension with anyone who would listen.  She truly was a “jack of all trades”. George Arthur Drake, 87, of Silsbee, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was born on March 27, 1937, in Silsbee, to Callie Yawn Drake and Reverend Roderick Murrah Drake. George was a Past Master of Silsbee Lodge, #927, A.F. and A.M. George met the love of his life, Bobbie Wise, in 1953, at church in Woodville.  Three years later he and Bobbie married on March 16, 1957.  They were married for sixty-seven glorious years. He retired from Texaco Refinery in 1995.  He was an expert carpenter and cabinet builder.  He also did remodeling and roofing for numerous people in the Silsbee area. Jimmy Drake, 78, of Silsbee, died Saturday, April 20, 2024. He was born on March 17, 1946, in Silsbee, to Oneida Faye Martin Drake and Jessie B. Drake. His life consisted of family, working, hunting, fishing, and farming. He worked at Kirby Lumber Company for many years. W J Burrell, 96, of Evadale, died Sunday, April 14, 2024.  He was born on September 28, 1927, in Evadale, to Evie Lester Burrell and Walter Burrell.  W J proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. W J was a native of Buna and work for over thirty-four years of service as Top Operator at Unical, now known as Chevron. Marvin Howard Taylor of Lumberton, Texas passed away on Saturday April 6 after reaching the age of 81 years old. He was born on July 19, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas to Grace Ida Gore Taylor and J.C. Taylor. He was one of seven siblings that he cherished and protected throughout their childhood. As a very young man he learned to work hard and provide for his family. He was an avid carpenter and could build anything – even if it meant telling someone else how to do it. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Freddie Sue and they married after three short months of dating. Louie Robert Shavers, 87, of Silsbee, died Friday, April 5, 2024.  He was born on December 9, 1936, in Silsbee, to Eunice McConathy Shavers and Louis Arthur Shavers. James “Jimmy” Bruce Butler, 71, of Silsbee, passed away on April 5, 2024. He was born on June 29, 1952, in Silsbee, to Ethel Estelle Kite Butler and I.M. Butler. Jimmy was a longtime resident of Hardin County where he retired as a captain from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office. After retirement he went into home building/construction. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time with family and friends. If you knew Jimmy, then you knew where to get your peas and corn. Beverly Ann Pryor, 47, of Lockhart, died Sunday, March 31, 2024.  She was born on April 15, 1976, in Taft, Texas, to Sherry Uhl Pryor and Ricky Pryor. Beverly was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, and friend.  Once she met you, she was a friend for life.  She had an amazing smile and a heart of gold. She would stop at a moment’s notice to help someone in need.  The much-deserved kind words and prayers of so many is evidence of how much she was loved.  She will be missed by so many of the lives she touched. Beverly loved her “Granny Pryor” and always wanted to do things just like her.
