W.D. “Bill” Taylor, 89, of Hamshire, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024. He was born on March 7, 1935, in Madisonville, to Beatrice and L.L. Taylor. Bill was the patriarch and backbone of the family. He was a guiding figure and support for all he encountered. He was a pastry chef and loved making breakfast for anyone around—his pancakes and biscuits were a family favorite. Bill enjoyed nature and lived a life amongst it—whether ranching, gardening, fishing, or shrimping, he could always be found outdoors. He spent many years in the plant industry as a process operator eventually retiring from Mobil Oil. He is remembered as a father figure to all those in the family and his memory and impact live on. James Calley Smith, CEO of McLeod Machine Works, Inc. in Beaumont left to see his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2024. He was born in San Augustine, Texas on December 5, 1935, to Lewis and Leona Smith. James began working at McLeod Machine Works when he was a junior at Beaumont High School. He worked there for seventy years. His Father-in-law, H.B. McLeod, started the business in 1948. James loved the Lord, his family, fishing, and being a machinist. Morgan Lynn Hawkins, 78, of Beaumont, Texas, left this world peacefully to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Born March 5, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas, he was the son of the late Raymond Hawkins and Melba (Morgan) Hawkins. Lynn is survived by his wonderful, loving wife of 55 years, Judy; son, Chris, and wife Jamie; and a very special grandson, Mason Hawkins of Conroe, Texas. In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by his brother, Kerry. Jose Ascencion Hernandez passed away on June 7, 2024. He was born in San Jeronimo, Michoacan, Mexico on May 19, 1955. In 1996, he came to Beaumont, Texas with his wife Maria Ortencia Correa. He is survived also by 3 children, Jose-Antonio Hernandez, Carmela Hernandez, and Jose Huriel Hernandez. Donald Hendry McCracken, II, 80, of Beaumont, died Thursday, June 6, 2024. He was born on November 10, 1943, in Buffalo, New York. Don graduated from Beaumont High School. Then following in his father’s footsteps of military service, Don enlisted in the United States Navy pursuing a career as a naval aviator.  After basic training and advanced flight training, Don would deploy to support war efforts in the Vietnam War aboard the Bon Homme Richard (CVA 31). After serving his tours as a carrier pilot, Don returned to Coronado, Ca. and continued in the Navy reserves while he returned to school and earned his law degree and then practiced civil law. Ray Walton, Jr., affectionately known as “Dang-Dang”, was born in Beaumont on August 28, 1932. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 3, 2024. He grew up in Beaumont and was a life-long member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was active in high school sports playing football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Lamar Tech on a basketball scholarship where he excelled both on and off the court. He was the first basketball player from Lamar to make all-conference for which he was chosen two consecutive years. He still holds one unbroken record at Lamar. He graduated from Beaumont High School and Lamar Tech. He received his master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin. Betty Rae Rice Allen, 96, of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 19, 2024. She was born on September 15, 1927, in Butler, Missouri, to Mary (Mae) Voss Rice and Clarence William Rice. Axel Maverick Flores, 2, of Beaumont, died Monday, May 13, 2024. He was born on March 28, 2022, in Houston, to Sarah Suzanne Simiskey and Andrew Michael Flores. Axel was also known as Bubby, Axe Man, Mr. Curls, Sweet Angel Baby, Turbo, and The Professor. He was his older brother’s whole world since the day they met.  His smile was infectious. Lisa Boudreaux Haygood, 61, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 13, 2024. Born on May 22, 1962, she was a devoted mother of five (including two sets of twins), a passionate teacher of theater arts, and a loving wife. Lisa graduated from Texas State University in 1985, and she acted and directed in countless theatrical performances. She touched many lives with her humor and sincerity and will be greatly missed. Lisa is survived by her husband and best friend, Russell Haygood; sons, Christopher, Jordan, Joshua, and Brandon; daughter, Brooke; sisters, June Hill and Paula Webb; brothers, Bob and Tim Boudreaux; grandson, Rowan Haygood; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanette Caudillo, 81, of Houston, formerly of Beaumont, died on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, 2024. Jeanette was born on October 3, 1942, in Rayne, Louisiana.  She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1961.  After graduation, she worked as an optical technician for Texas State Optical (TSO) Laboratory for 30 years.  After leaving TSO, Jeanette received a Medical Office Skills Certificate from Lamar University. She utilized her new skills to start a second career at Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, where she worked as a Cash Posting Clerk for 10 years, until she officially retired in 2003. In 1971, Jeanette married her loving husband, John Gilbert “Click” Caudillo.  They were blessed with two boys, Ramon and Larry.  Jeanette was very proud of her sons, always encouraging them to work hard in school, athletics and extracurricular activities. Else’ Jean Worsham, 87, of Beaumont, died Friday, May 10, 2024. She was born on January 3, 1937, in Erlangen, Germany, to Barbara and Ludwig Bittle. Soon after coming to the United States at 19 years old, Else’ was hired to model hats for Lerner’s Shops of New York. Else’ was very artistic and as she continued her career, Lerner’s Shops sent her to New York to be trained in designing window displays. She also worked for The Fair Store before being hired at Dillard’s in Parkdale Mall. Her career at Dillard’s selling social and better dresses spanned twenty-five years. Throughout her career she had the pleasure of meeting all the members of the Dillard family and won many awards for top sales. Joy Collier LeMasters went to join her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of May 2, 2024. She lived 98 full and wonderful years. Joy was born in Groveton, Texas, on August 30, 1925, to Eugene and Lilla Collier. The youngest of four, she was doted on by her much older siblings, Lucy, Eugene, and Fay. Her family moved to Huntsville several years later, and Joy grew up across the street from Sam Houston Teacher’s College while helping out in the family dry goods store. After graduating from Huntsville High School, Joy entered Sam Houston and graduated in 1944 with her teaching degree and a specialization in history, English and Spanish. Frank W. Richardson III, 80, of Beaumont, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Over the last few years, old age and health issues got the best of him and his heart just gave out.  Frank is now in the arms of Jesus, surrounded with love and no longer in pain or suffering. Frank was born on May 18, 1943, in South Portland, Maine. He graduated from South Portland High School in 1961 where he was a star football player, editor, and played trombone in the marching band. He was born on November 30, 1950, in Beaumont, to Martha Carlene Hayman Hobson Shannon and Teddy Rosevelt Shannon, Sr. Survivors include his brother, Obie Burrow; nieces, Charmane Walton (Jerry), and Kimberly Gose (Kregg); great-nephews, Seth Palmer, and Haden Palmer; and a host of other relatives and friends. Jeanelda Denmark Darling was born June 26, 1927, and passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by loved ones, on April 17, 2024, at the age of 96.  Jeanelda was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas and was the daughter of Jesse V. and Lillian Marion Denmark.  After graduation from New Braunfels High School in 1945, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied costume design.  Jeanelda married her high school sweetheart Jack Elliott Darling in 1948 and worked in the administration offices for Austin Public Schools until Jack graduated from the University in 1950.  After his graduation they moved to Beaumont, where he worked in radio broadcasting for a time and then had a long career in banking. Kyle Martin Kempe, 66, of Metairie, Louisiana, died at home after a short illness Sunday, April 14, 2024.  He was born in Fort Worth, Texas, October 25, 1957.  He was the son of the late Helen Kerr Kempe and Gerald Lloyd Kempe. Kyle lived a military family life and once said, “I’ve lived from the desert to the swamps with many detours along the way.” Kyle graduated from Spectrum High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He received his Bachelor of Computer Science at the University of Houston in 1981.  His intelligence took him far in his career.  He developed and wrote the program SABRE in 1996 which was used in the travel industry. Craig Dentler Pemberton, 74, of Sour Lake, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024. He was born December 14, 1949 in Houston, Texas, to Eloise Dentler and Charles Pemberton. Neighborhood mischief, summer little- league, vacations at his grandmother’s bay house, countless hunting trips with his dad and later with his two boys provided memories for a lifetime. Craig’s family moved to Beaumont, Texas when he was young. He often shared memories of growing up on 21st Street – this is also where he met his good friend, Kyle Yeates, who introduced him to baseball. Wanda Simmons Funchess, 90, of Beaumont, died Monday, April 8, 2024. She was born on December 9, 1933, in Ozona, Texas, to Elsie Jewel Saunders and Thomas Maurice Simmons. Wanda was raised in the small town of Junction, Texas. In her teen years, she worked at the local Soda Fountain/Pharmacy. This is where, after graduating high school, she met her future husband, Hank Funchess. Hank was attending Texas A & M and was in Junction for summer school. Upon seeing Wanda, even before meeting her, he told his fellow classmates that she was his girl. She wondered why no other boys came over to talk to her. They were married in August 1954. Kathleen was born in Beaumont, Texas, March 17, 1937, and resided there until 2010, when she moved to Colorado to be closer to Erik and Karl. Richard (Dick) Osborn, 95, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away April 1, 2024. Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on October 22, 1928, to Russell Osborn, Sr., and Olive (McCue) Osborn, Richard was the youngest of three brothers. A US Army World War II veteran, Richard was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He was a devout Catholic and always made it to mass no matter where he was. He was a kind, gentle, giving man that helped others in any way he could. Evangeline John George, age 93, passed away from earthly life on March 27, 2024. Born in Beaumont, Texas on May 11, 1930, to James and Rose Katherine George, Evangeline (Van) impacted the lives of many people. Floyd Frederick Flanagan, 93, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1930, in Beaumont, to Ruby Rhode and John Flanagan. Floyd attended Beaumont High School where he was a standout athlete in tennis, basketball, and baseball. He was selected to play on the Beaumont all-city baseball team. Floyd earned a basketball scholarship at Lamar University and went on to play professional baseball. He married his high school sweetheart, Sue Carolyn Chambers on December 30, 1950.Floyd was drafted into the US Army as an MP stationed in Wurzburg, Germany in 1952.  He returned to the US and became general manager and president of a local oil and gas distributorship. Survivors include his wife, Carolina; children, Karina Sosa (Ronaldo); Lizbeth Torres (Roberto); and Leslie Huerta; grandchildren, Jaydan Torres; Jadrian Torres; Jiovan Torres; Jahnya Torres; Darian Huerta (Stephanie Gomez); and Jamir Huerta; great-granddaughter, Debaney Huerta; four siblings; niece, Evelin Alarcon (Gilberto); and numerous other relatives and friends.
