Patsy Flo Vitek, 77, of Beaumont, died Thursday, May 16, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1947, in San Antonio to Bettye Lee Schmidt and Claude Edward Spence. Survivors include her husband, Larry Vitek of Beaumont; children, Larry Wayne Vitek of Kingsport, Tennessee; Kimberly Claudette Vitek of Beaumont; Michael Wayne Spence and his wife, Cindy, of Gruene; sister, Claudia Jean Spence of Sugarland; and grandchildren, Brandon Charles Fox of Beaumont and Brenna Renee Fox and fiancé Randal Perry, of Lake Jackson. Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Bettye Spence, and sister, Donna Lee Russell. Momma could spend hours combing the beach for seashells. She loved collecting antiques and coins. Clair could spend hours picking through thrift shops. She had a booth at the Lumberton Antique Mall for many years. Survivors include her son, John Adams and his wife, Angelique, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Xavier; Armand and his wife Samantha; and Sophia; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Matthew; sister, Stephanie Wiley and husband, Larry; and brother, John Coward. Garland F. West, 74, of Beaumont, passed away Monday, May 13th, 2024, at Harbor Hospice. He was born on August 30, 1949, to Wilma Hight West and Ova Lee West in Beaumont. After graduating from Hardin-Jefferson High School in May 1968, Garland was drafted into the United States Army in October of that year. While serving in Vietnam he achieved the rank of Sergeant before completing his tour. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He tilled the soil morning till night growing one of the best gardens in the area. He said gardening kept him sane. David was born on January 4, 1937, to Zelma and Henry Fountain. He had one brother, Lyndon.  They lived a simple and quiet life in Warren, Texas, where they worked and attended church. He also loved to play basketball. With his 6’4” height, he played the post position and during his senior year was named First Team All-State.  He also held the record for most free throws made for a high school career. Freddie Campbell, 71, of Lumberton, lost his battle with Leukemia on Monday, May 6, 2024. Freddie was born July 13, 1952, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Fred and Jeanette Campbell.  He was a faithful member of North End Baptist Church where he served in the kitchen, as a Sunday School teacher, narrator and VBS volunteer. Buddy Crow, 80, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born on September 9, 1943, to Callie Beatrice Teague Crow and George Spencer Crow, in Dermott, Arkansas, and was a veteran of the United States Army. Buddy retired from B&E Resources-Beaumont in 2017 as an estimator and was a retired member of Pipefitters Local 195 in Nederland. Darby Davis Doguet was born March 7th, 1931, in Basile, LA; the oldest of Fabius and Alena Doguet. Darby had two younger brothers, Emery and Ronnie. One fateful night, Darby attended the Saturday Night Social and met his future bride who he married a few months later on December 11, 1949 and she became Dee Doguet. They were married for 72 years. Shortly after marriage, they were living in Lafayette, LA, and started their family with a son, David Lynn. They later moved to Bay City, TX, where Darby started his career in the rice business at Independent Rice Dryer, while Dee worked at Dickie’s Grocery Store. In 1954, the family grew again with another son, Michael Darby, and then moved to Alvin, TX, where Darby went to work for Newman Rice Mill.
