Patsy Flo Vitek, 77, of Beaumont, died Thursday, May 16, 2024. She was born on January 9, 1947, in San Antonio to Bettye Lee Schmidt and Claude Edward Spence. Survivors include her husband, Larry Vitek of Beaumont; children, Larry Wayne Vitek of Kingsport, Tennessee; Kimberly Claudette Vitek of Beaumont; Michael Wayne Spence and his wife, Cindy, of Gruene; sister, Claudia Jean Spence of Sugarland; and grandchildren, Brandon Charles Fox of Beaumont and Brenna Renee Fox and fiancé Randal Perry, of Lake Jackson. Patsy is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Bettye Spence, and sister, Donna Lee Russell. Brown Lee Chapman, 55, a long-time resident of Beaumont died Thursday May 16, 2024. He was born on January 18, 1969, in Statesville, North Carolina to Collen and Russell Chapman. Survivors include his wife Rose Marie Chapman; children Stephen Chapman (Emily), and Indigo Chapman; grandson Caleb Chapman all of Beaumont; siblings, Rusty Chapman (Cindy), and Julie; as well as best friend Kevin, all of North Carolina. He is proceeded in Death by his parents and grandmother, Ida Goad. Clair Adams, 80, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024. She was born on February 26, 1944, in Beaumont to Clifford Ann Rigsby and John Clifford. Momma could spend hours combing the beach for seashells. She loved collecting antiques and coins. Clair could spend hours picking through thrift shops. She had a booth at the Lumberton Antique Mall for many years. Survivors include her son, John Adams and his wife, Angelique, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Xavier; Armand and his wife Samantha; and Sophia; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn and Matthew; sister, Stephanie Wiley and husband, Larry; and brother, John Coward. Garland F. West, 74, of Beaumont, passed away Monday, May 13th, 2024, at Harbor Hospice. He was born on August 30, 1949, to Wilma Hight West and Ova Lee West in Beaumont. After graduating from Hardin-Jefferson High School in May 1968, Garland was drafted into the United States Army in October of that year. While serving in Vietnam he achieved the rank of Sergeant before completing his tour. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He tilled the soil morning till night growing one of the best gardens in the area. He said gardening kept him sane. Garland served on the YMBL livestock committee, where we made some lifelong friends. He loved working with the kids and animals. David D. Fountain, 87, of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Calder Woods, Beaumont. David was born on January 4, 1937, to Zelma and Henry Fountain. He had one brother, Lyndon.  They lived a simple and quiet life in Warren, Texas, where they worked and attended church. He also loved to play basketball. With his 6’4” height, he played the post position and during his senior year was named First Team All-State.  He also held the record for most free throws made for a high school career. After high school, he married Annie Elise Best.  They had four children together, Scott, Larry, Lance and Lisa. David and Anne were married for 32 years. Malinda Kuhn, 60, of Fannett, died Saturday, May 11, 2024. She was born on August 26, 1963, to Mary Shirley Dryden and Bill Dryden, in Germany. Survivors include her husband, Dale Kuhn; daughter, Alycia Kuhn, of Fannett; son, Chris Kuhn and his wife, Desirae, of Florida; daughter, Mary Kuhn of Fannett; grandchildren, Preston Kuhn, John Kuhn, and Jayden Kuhn, all of Florida; and mother, Mary Callahan and her husband, John, of Fannett. She is preceded in death by her brother, Billy Dryden. Rachel Joye Whitmeyer, 92, of Bevil Oaks, died Friday, May 10, 2024, surrounded by her four daughters. She was born July 20, 1931, to Jesse Karrel Waller, Sr. and Jacy Irene Waller, in Neuville, Texas. Rachel and Jim were some of the first to build a home in Bevil Oaks and were Charter Members of First Baptist Church of Bevil Oaks where they were active members for many years. Ruby Marie Ransonette, 88, of Beaumont, died Thursday, May 9, 2024. She was born on December 12, 1935, to Elise Meaux Courville and Jules Gaston Courville, in Catahoula, Louisiana. Ruby graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas, in 1954 and married Harold “Red” Ransonette the summer after graduation.  Ruby worked in the office at St. Joseph church for many years and in 1973 decided to attend Stilwell Technical Center in Office Education.  After graduating from Stilwell, she became a teller at Texaco Credit Union, eventually becoming supervisor of tellers, and helped establish the 5 Point Credit Union Beaumont branch. Norman Lane Traylor was born on August 20 in 1949 in Hughes Springs, Texas. He left this world for his heavenly home on May 9, 2024.  He was the son of Billy and Betty Traylor.  He was affectionately known to all of us close to him as ‘Cheta.” Norman’s formative years were spent in Hughes Springs, Texas, where he attended Hughes Springs High School. After high school he attended Kilgore College, East Texas State University where he received a B.S. and M.S. degree, and Texas A&M  in College Station, where he received a Doctorate Degree in Administration in 1986. Jonathan Chandler Doucet of Beaumont, Texas, was taken from us on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was born November 8, 1995, in Beaumont, to Kirstie Crowell and John Doucet. Jonathan, or as those closest to him called him Bubba, Bubba J, Uncle J, and JDoo, was a young, passionate, strong, full of life, determined, handy, helpful, and loving man. Jalle Sue Porter “MeMaw”, 87, passed away on May 7, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She married her high school sweetheart Larry Porter, and they celebrated sixty-seven beautiful years of marriage together. Herbert Morris Howell, 79, of Beaumont, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont, due to health complications. Herbert was born on August 5, 1944, to J. Herbert Howell and Beatrice Steele Howell  in Moultrie, Georgia. There he spent the better part of his early life growing up alongside his older brother, Ferman Howell. Upon graduating high school, he enrolled at Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, Georgia where he received his Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering prior to being drafted in the U.S. Army in September of 1966. Freddie Campbell, 71, of Lumberton, lost his battle with Leukemia on Monday, May 6, 2024. Freddie was born July 13, 1952, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Fred and Jeanette Campbell.  He was a faithful member of North End Baptist Church where he served in the kitchen, as a Sunday School teacher, narrator and VBS volunteer. He retired from the Beaumont Enterprise after 33 years. He highly recommended retirement to all his friends. His favorite pastimes were golf, serving at church and most of all being a Pappaw. He loved sports and was a devoted Arkansas Razorback and Houston Astros fan. He was very competitive whether it be playing golf with friends or basketball with grandkids. Beaumont native Mary Catherine Pearson (née Verde) passed away May 5, 2024, following a long illness. She was 78 years old. She was born on February 14, 1946, to Jeanette Rose Verde and Jake M. Verde, the eldest of six siblings. A lifelong Catholic, Mary Catherine attended St. Anthony’s Basilica School and what later came to be known as Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School. She met her husband, Randall “Randy” Pearson, in her late teens and remained married to him for 47 years, from 1965 until his death in 2012. In addition to being a daughter, sister, friend and wife, she became a mother to three children: Kelly Brewton (née Pearson) of Beaumont, Stephen Pearson, of Beaumont, and Kevin Pearson, of Grand Junction, Colorado. Ellouise (Ella) Richmond, 100, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 5, 2024, surrounded by her family.  On September 1, 1923, James Peyton McGown and Ruby Norsworthy McGown welcomed their first child, Hattie Ellouise. Samuel “Sammy” Villarreal, 56, of Beaumont, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024. He was born on June 29, 1967, in Edinburg, to Maria Elva Flores and Leopoldo Villarreal. Sammy moved to Beaumont when he was 19. He worked for the Kettle Restaurant then Brown and Root Construction, later Performance Truck from August 1992 and was a diesel mechanic for 32 years. Orville Neil Odom, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the youngest of five boys, born in Lufkin, Texas, on August 23, 1938, to James Thomas Odom and Clora Estelle Odom of Apple Springs, Texas. Gregory Mark Bryant, Sr., 70, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. He was born on October 29, 1953, to Frances Ganus Bryant and Frank Bryant, in Waco. Greg was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and loved his weekend trips to the Cowboy store. Richard “Rusty” Ryall was born May 11, 1965, in Jasper, Texas. Rusty died peacefully on April 28, 2024, at Village Creek Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton, Texas.  Rusty is preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Ryall Walker and his uncle, the Honorable Ronald Walker. Jerry Wayne “Coach” Covington, 80, of Sour Lake, Texas, died Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Houston Methodist Hospital.  He was born on January 14, 1944, to Effie Lee Jones Covington and Francis Covington in Meridian, Mississippi, and was a United States Marine Corps veteran. Kenneth John Babin, Jr., 72, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024. He was born on November 14, 1951, to Estrella Faye Moore Babin and Kenneth John Babin, Sr., in Beaumont. Darby Davis Doguet was born March 7th, 1931, in Basile, LA; the oldest of Fabius and Alena Doguet. Darby had two younger brothers, Emery and Ronnie. One fateful night, Darby attended the Saturday Night Social and met his future bride who he married a few months later on December 11, 1949 and she became Dee Doguet. They were married for 72 years. Shortly after marriage, they were living in Lafayette, LA, and started their family with a son, David Lynn. They later moved to Bay City, TX, where Darby started his career in the rice business at Independent Rice Dryer, while Dee worked at Dickie’s Grocery Store.
