Orville Neil Odom, 85, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. A gathering of Mr. Odom’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2024, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Richard “Rusty” Ryall was born May 11, 1965, in Jasper, Texas. Rusty died peacefully on April 28, 2024, at Village Creek Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton, Texas.  Rusty is preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Ryall Walker and his uncle, the Honorable Ronald Walker. Rusty is survived by his cousin, Judge Layne Walker and his wife, Cynthia Walker, and their children: Courtney Duhon and her husband Dylan; Layne Walker Jr. and his wife, Cassandra; Kyle Walker and his wife, Shelby; and his cousins, Ted L. Jerry Wayne “Coach” Covington, 80, of Sour Lake, Texas, died Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Houston Methodist Hospital.  He was born on January 14, 1944, to Effie Lee Jones Covington and Francis Covington in Meridian, Mississippi, and was a United States Marine Corps veteran. While dad was growing up in Meridian, where he was active in sports, he developed lasting and loving friendships that he carried throughout his life.  After his military service he located to Beaumont, Texas and became a Beaumont City Firefighter while attaining his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Lamar University.  He then began a 40+ year career in private and public education while coaching football, basketball, and track at Kelly High School, South Park High School and West Brook High School.  Dad was passionate about being a coach so that he could help kids in the same way that his coaches growing up had helped him.  […]

Kenneth John Babin, Jr., 72, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024. He was born on November 14, 1951, to Estrella Faye Moore Babin and Kenneth John Babin, Sr., in Beaumont. Being a native of Beaumont, Kenny graduated from French High School in 1970.  He then married his high school sweetheart, Beverly, on May 17, 1975, and they were blessed with two children, Dustin and Daina.  During their almost 49 years of marriage, they shared many wonderful memories together as a family. Kenny started his career with Coburn’s Supply in 1982 where he revolutionized the way Coburn’s sold Air Conditioning parts and equipment. Darby Davis Doguet was born March 7th, 1931, in Basile, LA; the oldest of Fabius and Alena Doguet. Darby had two younger brothers, Emery and Ronnie. One fateful night, Darby attended the Saturday Night Social and met his future bride who he married a few months later on December 11, 1949 and she became Dee Doguet. They were married for 72 years. Shortly after marriage, they were living in Lafayette, LA, and started their family with a son, David Lynn. They later moved to Bay City, TX, where Darby started his career in the rice business at Independent Rice Dryer, while Dee worked at Dickie’s Grocery Store. Charles “Charlie” Herbert Goodness, Sr., 84, of Sugar Land, died on April 15, 2024, at Harbor Hospice following a kidney cancer battle. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Kathryn Phipps Goodness and Charles Harold Edward Goodness. Charlie was raised primarily by his mother and was a mischievous child. He grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Byrd High School. He was a circulation auditor for ABC Circulation, traveling the nation and surrounding countries, auditing newspapers and periodicals. Vernon Pierce, 69, of Beaumont, died Sunday, April 14, 2024. On August 3, 1954, Hugh Vernon Pierce and Patricia Parker Pierce welcomed Hugh Vernon Pierce, Jr. to the family. While not the first grandson, and not even the first grandchild, he was quickly designated his Grandmother Pierce’s favorite. That was according to HER. Vernon loved to tell that when the family gathered and Grandmother Pierce served her famous chocolate pie, she would produce one for the family and a second “for Vernon.” And NO one challenged her on that. Vera Irene Rush Mason, lovingly known as “Grand I”, joyfully entered the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 14, 2024.  She was born on November 7, 1928, in Beaumont, Texas to Cosby Creed Rush and Mary Alice Farris.  The youngest of eight children, she was 10 years younger than her closest siblings and grew up with her nieces and nephews. Andy Bogan, 61, of Beaumont, died Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was born May 2, 1962, in Beaumont, to Joe Bogan and Roz Carter. Andy graduated from Forest Park High School in 1981. Steve Landry, 78, of China, Texas passed away on April 11, 2024, after a lengthy illness.   He was born on January 11, 1946, to Louise Richard Landry and Eune Paul Landry in Crowley, Louisiana. Following generations of rice farmers Steve was the first individual to receive a patent for a rice variety. His passion for farming kept him in that line of work until his retirement in 2009 from Texas Agri-Life. After retirement his interest were restoring old farming equipment, gardening, and woodworking. His yard was filled with swings hanging from trees where you could find him lounging many afternoons. James “Jim” Larkin, Jr., 72, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont. He was born on May 26, 1951, in Hammond, Indiana, to Margaret Charlene Nihiser Larkin and James E. Larkin, Sr. Jim grew up in East Chicago, Indiana and was a proud member of the 1970 Roosevelt HS Indiana State championship basketball team. Jim lived for a short time in Kansas and moved to his favorite state of Texas where he has lived for 40 + years but remained an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. Deborah Lee (Debbie) Myers passed away April 1, 2024, at the age of 73. She was born May 23, 1950, to Charles H. and Gretta N. Donaldson, in Toledo, Ohio.  Debbie trained as a nurse and attended the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. However, she never practiced nursing, choosing to stay home and raise a family. She loved reading, crafting, camping, gardening, and spending time outdoors enjoying the beauty of nature.  Debbie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Vern, daughter Elisabeth, and brother David. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and her son Matthew. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her passing will be memorialized at a private gathering of closest family and friends. Kendall R. Stockholm, PhD (July 18, 1939 – March 30, 2024), former State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and member of the US Marine Corps Reserves, was a 1957 graduate of French High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Lamar State University and later obtained his Masters’ and PhD from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, older brother, father, and mother. Dr. O.R. (Rudy) Allred, 91, of Beaumont, Texas passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024. He was born to Eliza and Nellie Cowart Allred on September 1, 1932, in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He grew up in Groves, Texas, graduating from Port Neches-Groves High School. Rudy came to Beaumont in 1957 after graduating from the University of Texas Dental School-Houston. He practiced dentistry there from 1957 until 1998. He was always active in the Southeast Texas Dental Society where he served as President and Past President. Glenn Willard Mikko, 78, of Beaumont, died Saturday, March 23, 2024. He was born on April 25, 1945, in Melvindale, Michigan to Hilda Evelyn Olson and Willard Mikko. Glenn was an avid hunter and he loved fishing. He loved and supported the Meals on Wheels program as a delivery driver for many years. Glenn enjoyed going to church and fellowshipping with fellow believers. He secretly enjoyed the gardening and busy work that Wanda got him into over the years. Glenn loved spending time with his family, especially at the lake house or beach house at least once a year. Our brother, Chris, suffered a fatal heart attack on March 21, 2024, in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas. Chris was born in 1957, a year that calls to mind stylish automobile designs, Sputnik, Elvis Presley’s Graceland and President Eisenhower’s 2nd term. It was also the year that the Edson family moved from Magnolia Avenue to Clinton Drive. Chris’s birth, marking the 6th child of Mamie and Ed Edson, Jr., jokingly earned a basketball trophy from family friend, Waldo Wilson, for completion of the boys’ team. Chris’s favorite sister, Missy Fisher, and the three surviving brothers, Richard, Johnny and Ed, have cherished memories of their baby brother. Chris was the apple of their eye and stood up well to their obligatory teasing. Chris completed his primary education in Beaumont.
